[autotag]Chase Elliott[/autotag] has officially been named the 2023 Most Popular Driver Award winner in the NASCAR Cup Series. Elliott received the honor at NASCAR’s banquet in Nashville, Tennessee, as the sport celebrates its 2023 season. This is the sixth straight season he has received the award and the only winner since Dale Earnhardt Jr. retired at the conclusion of the 2017 season.
Eliott won the award despite having a down year with Hendrick Motorsports. He missed seven races due to injury and a suspension, which all played into his failure to make the 2023 playoffs. At the end of the season, Elliott finished with seven top-5 finishes and 17 top-10 finishes in 29 races. The Hendrick Motorsports driver finished 17th in the point standings.
The Most Popular Driver award is likely Elliott’s for the foreseeable future. If he can win in one of his worst seasons, there is no doubt that it will continue moving forward. It will be interesting to see how many awards Elliott can win in a row after claiming his sixth straight in 2023.
