Chase Elliott talks about Martin Truex Jr.’s retirement from NASCAR in 2024. Find out what Elliott said about Truex as he retires soon!

[autotag]Martin Truex Jr.[/autotag] announced that he will retire from the NASCAR Cup Series at the conclusion of the 2024 season. It will mark the end of a storybook career that featured Truex emerging after his 30th birthday with Furniture Row Racing and Joe Gibbs Racing. The 43-year-old driver won the 2017 Cup Series championship and will look to earn another in 2024.

Following the news of Truex’s retirement, several drivers, including [autotag]Chase Elliott[/autotag], discussed it with FOX Sports’ Bob Pockrass. Over the weekend, Elliott was asked if he had a memorable interaction with Truex, and the answer was as expected.

“No. And, honestly, that’s why I like [Martin Truex Jr.],” Elliott said. “I wish we had more of that. I’ve always had a lot of respect for Martin. We’ve always gotten along well. We probably have never spoke more than 20 words to each other in my nine years. And we don’t have to. There’s always been a mutual respect there.”

Truex is one of the most respected drivers in the Cup Series garage, and the overall sentiment is that everyone is sad to see him retire at the end of 2024. Elliott has a lot of respect for the Joe Gibbs Racing driver, and it’s not surprising to see that across the board. The Cup Series will look different without Truex, but it doesn’t mean he is going away forever.
