[autotag]Chase Elliott[/autotag] hasn’t won a road course in the NextGen car, but Circuit of the Americas represents a place where his entire status can change. Elliott hasn’t won a race since October 2022, and if he were to win at COTA, it would lock him into the playoffs. The Hendrick Motorsports driver is nearing a notable record, but how many wins away is he right now?
Elliott currently sits at seven road course wins, two away from tying Jeff Gordon for the most in NASCAR Cup Series history. If Elliott can win at Circuit of the Americas, he will tie Tony Stewart for second most of all time. Granted, Gordon and Stewart accomplished these totals when there were only two road course events on the schedule.
It seems unlikely that Elliott will break the record in 2024, but a win at Circuit of the Americas would give him a chance. It seems inevitable that he will eventually break the record, but when that happens is the question. Either way, Elliott would benefit from a win at COTA in more ways than one. The Hendrick Motorsports driver needs it, and the No. 9 car could be primed for victory lane.
