No. 4 Tennessee (14-1) defeated Rhode Island (0-12), 8-3, Friday to sweep a double header at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
The Vols defeated Rhode Island, 17-4, in Friday’s first game.
In game No. 2, Tennessee scored five runs in the fifth inning. Christian Moore, Christian Scott and Cortland Lawson each hit solo home runs in the inning.
Jordan Beck scored when Evan Russell reached base on a Rhode Island error. Luc Lipcius stole home to give Tennessee a 7-1 lead.
The Vols opened its scoring in the bottom of the second inning when Russell had an RBI double. Trey Lipscomb scored on the play.
Tennessee extended its lead to 2-0 in the third inning when Moore’s triple scored Jared Dickey.
Rhode Island scored one run in the fifth inning and two in the ninth.
Scott’s RBI single in the sixth inning gave the Vols a 8-1 lead.
Pitcher Chase Dollander earned his second win of the season. He pitched six innings, giving up one run, five hits and two walks. He recorded 12 strikeouts.
Ben Joyce, Hollis Fanning and Kirby Connell each appeared in relief for the Vols.
