Many fans were surprised when the Pittsburgh Steelers selected wide receiver Chase Claypool in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft. You know who else was surprised? Claypool. He told the media after he was selected with the No. 49 pick he spoke to head coach Mike Tomlin at the Senior Bowl but Pittsburgh would have been his last guess for who would draft him.

There are a couple of ways to look at this. The most likely cause for this is the COVID-19 outbreak. It forced Notre Dame to cancel their pro day and didn’t allow the Steelers to bring in players for private workouts.

It’s interesting to hear Claypool was surprised the Steelers made him the pick but you have to assume several guys are going to get drafted by teams who didn’t have much contact with them pre-draft.
