Charles Barkley to donate $1 million to Tuskegee University

It will be the fifth HBCU that Barkley has donated money to.

Charles Barkley is back to doing charitable things again.

The Auburn basketball legend and NBA Hall of Famer has decided to donate $1 million to Tuskegee University in part because it is the hometown of one of his former teammates Greg Turner.

“I was ready to make my next move and had promised Greg I’d choose Tuskegee,” Barkley said per AL.com.

It is the fifth historically black college that Barkley has donated money to.

From AL.com:

Barkley added that he is extremely concerned about the compact of the global pandemic on Black students. Last month, he donated 200 computers to his former high school in Leeds and said AT&T donated free wireless Internet access to the students for a year.

“I spoke to the school’s principal and he said, ‘We got 500 students and 200 computers,” Barkley said. “That math doesn’t add up. We’ve got to find a way to help these kids compete. If they’ve got to learn virtually and don’t have a computer or Internet access, how are they going to compete in the world?

“I don’t want them to be left behind.”
