Chad Johnson spent 11 full seasons in the NFL. After entering the NFL as a second-round pick in the 2001 NFL draft, Johnson enjoyed a 10-year run of success with the Cincinnati Bengals before spending his final season with the New England Patriots in 2011.
It was during that run with the Bengals that Johnson was considered one of the top receivers in the NFL, mentioned alongside Randy Moss, Calvin Johnson, Marvin Harrison, Larry Fitzgerald and others among the best.
Since leaving the NFL, Johnson loves talking about the current NFL receivers. As a former Bengal, he is a huge fan of Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. However, one of his favorite players for a few years now is Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin.
On more than one occasion, Johnson has touted McLaurin as one of the best.
In a recent appearance on “Club Shay Shay” with Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe, Johnson named the NFL’s best wideouts. Davante Adams was Johnson’s choice as the NFL’s best wide receiver.
Then Sharpe asked Johnson about the best receivers under 25 years old. Chase, A.J. Brown, Justin Jefferson and McLaurin were among the first players he named. It’s important to note that McLaurin is 27, but nonetheless, Johnson loves him as a player.
When naming his favorite under 25, he listed Chase, Jefferson and McLaurin in the following order. He also named DeVonta Smith, CeeDee Lamb, DK Metcalf and……..Jahan Dotson.
“Dotson, along with McLaurin, they’ve got a nice combo now,” Johnson said. “If they could get some consistent quarterback player over there, they could make some noise. They making noise already, but I mean consistently like the rest of the team.”
Johnson’s right. The only thing holding the Commanders back is consistent quarterback play.
