Chad Dallas guided Tennessee (19-4, 3-1 SEC) to a series-opening win against LSU on Friday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
Dallas hurled seven innings and gave up one run, five hits and a walk, while striking out 11 in No. 9 Tennessee’s 3-1 victory over No. 14 LSU.
LSU (16-6, 1-3 SEC) took a 1-0 lead when Gavin Dugas clubbed a solo home run in the top of the second inning.
In the third inning, Tennessee’s bats awoke against Tigers’ starter Landon Marceaux, who also posted a solid outing on the mound.
Marceaux (2-2) surrendered two runs (one earned), three hits and three walks, while striking out nine.
Against Marceaux, the Vols were able to produce two runs in the bottom of the third as Jake Rucker’s triple plated Liam Spence, who reached to lead off the game for the Big Orange.
Tennessee took a 2-1 lead when Rucker came home on a pass ball when Drew Gilbert struck out swinging.
The Vols added an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh when Gilbert doubled in Rucker.
Dallas (4-0) left in the eighth inning, giving way to Sean Hunley. Hunley pitched a pair of scoreless innings en route to recording his second save of the 2021 campaign. He had one strikeout and walked one.
