Celtics roster news: Team agrees to extension with Josh Richardson

The Boston Celtics have agreed to a 1-year contract extension with Josh Richardson.

The 2021-22 NBA season is getting closer to begin and the Boston Celtics are beginning to get their affairs in order before training camp begins in late September. The C’s had some roster questions to address and they were able to get one done on Monday.

Recent acquisition Josh Richardson only had one season left on his contract as he was originally set to become a free agent in 2022, but that will not be the case anymore.

Per Shams Charania of The Athletic and The Stadium, the Celtics have agreed to a 1-year contract extension with Richardson. The versatile guard will now earn $24 million across the 2021-22 and the 2022-23 seasons in Boston.

Richardson averaged 12.1 points and 3.3 rebounds in his one season with the Dallas Mavericks and he will now be looking to bring some versatility on offense to the Celtics. He is also a very solid defender as he will help Boston on both ends of the floor and give coach Ime Udoka a lot of different options on how to use him on the floor.
