On Thursday night, the Boston Celtics went into Chase Center with zero combined games of NBA Finals experience and came away with a come-from-behind win as the final horn sounded.
The message heard here from Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Smart, was the cliche “one game, stay focused” kind of locker room talk that usually follows big wins.
On Saturday the message was different.
And it didn’t take many words being said to understand the message. Celtics players showed up to Saturday’s media availability wearing black T-shirts with orange font that read “WE ARE BG,” as support to WNBA superstar Brittney Griner who has been wrongfully detained in Russia for several months.

Jaylen Brown spoke on the reasoning behind him and his teammates wearing the shirts, which he says was led by Grant Williams.
"We wanted to come out and show our support… We feel like enough is enough."

It was recently revealed that Griner has begun being able to receive letters and emails from some friends and family. Hopefully, she receives word of the continued support she’s getting from fellow athletes.
Nevertheless, this was a cool gesture from the Celtics before Game 2.
