Celtics injury update: Robert Williams III OUT vs. Pelicans; awaiting birth of child

Timelord has been downgraded to out vs. New Orleans with an acute case of impending fatherhood.

The Boston Celtics have downgraded starting center Robert Williams III to out against the New Orleans Pelicans at TD Garden on Martin Luther King Day, but it is for perhaps the best reason a player can miss a game and not some injury surfacing or a trip into the NBA’s health and safety protocols.

Timelord is evidently taking the game off to be with his girlfriend, with images taken from his Instagram this morning showing the Texas A&M product with her in the hospital as the pair wait for their child to be born. That’s about an excused of an absence as one can conceive of, and the Celtics should be in a position to come away with a win without him so long as they bring their “A” game.

Normally, getting one’s name added to the injury report last-minute is by no means something to celebrate.

But this particular instance is an extraordinary one, and we wish Williams all the best on the new addition to his family.
