Celtics injury update: Point guard Dennis Schroder enters health, safety protocols, leaves Boston dangerously thin vs. Bucks

Boston is down to just 7 players who are definite to play on Christmas Day.

The Boston Celtics announced that they will be without veteran point guard Dennis Schroder Saturday morning, with the team reporting that the German floor general had entered the NBA’s health and safety protocols with a positive COVID-19 test.

This development further thins Boston’s already paper-thin depth, with only seven players currently available free and clear with another four players on the roster listed as questionable for the team’s Christmas Day game against the reigning league champion Milwaukee Bucks only down big man Brook Lopez. Should one of the four questionable players be unable to suit up and the Celtics end up below the required 8 players needed to play a game, it is still possible for the Celtics to sign a player with a 10-day hardship exception to meet that limit.

Tipoff for today’s game is at 2:30 p.m. ET.
