The Boston Celtics announced that veteran shooting guard Josh Richardson will miss Friday night’s away game against the Phoenix Suns, with the Tennessee product entering the NBA’s health and safety protocols with positive results returned from a routine COVID-19 screening.
Richardson will not be available to play against the Suns in a contest already seeing the Celtics without the services of All-Star forward Jaylen Brown — out while recovering from a strained hamstring — and reserve big man Bruno Fernando, who has been suffering from back spasms. With the Hospital Celtics making an unexpected appearance in the last game of Boston’s annual West Coast road trip, the team will face an uphill battle against a strong Phoenix squad who are themselves without star guard Devin Booker, also dealing with a hamstring issue.
One minor silver lining is the team will get a chance to see how several younger players will fair in a nationally-televised game environment, but the Celtics will need their “A” game from everyone who takes the floor to have a shot at winning.
