Celtics head coach Ime Udoka to name a team captain – possibly two

After many years without a team captain, Boston might have multiple in 2021-22.

There has been no captain of the Boston Celtics since before the tenure of former head coach and current President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens, with the current Celtics team president having had a philosophy on coaching that did not mesh with the concept.

But now the team has a new head coach in former Brooklyn Nets assistant coach Ime Udoka, who revealed after the team’s training camp practice on Saturday that he might end up naming more than one captain, never mind bringing back the practice. Speaking with the press during the team’s usual media availability session, Udoka acknowledged it was a topic of discussion internally, and that naming more than one captain was on the table.

“We’ve talked about it,” he explained. “I’ve talked about it with the staff.”
