After playing sparingly as of late, the Boston Celtics have assigned rookie guard Carsen Edwards to the Maine Red Claws in the G League, the team announced on Monday morning.
Edwards previously played four games in the G League earlier this month for the Red Claws before he re-joined the Celtics on Dec. 22. Edwards averaged 21.8 points, five rebounds, 3.5 assists and three steals for the Red Claws, including a season-high 28 points on Dec. 15.
Since re-joining the Celtics, Edwards has logged just 10 minutes over the past three games, playing mostly in mop-up duty. With the Red Claws set to play on Tuesday, the Celtics likely wanted Edwards to continue to get work in to stay sharp.

With the Celtics boasting a crowded backcourt, playing time for Edwards has been sporadic this season and with Marcus Smart back after an eye infection, the Celtics likely won’t need Edwards Tuesday against the Charlotte Hornets.
Edwards is averaging 3.4 points in 24 appearances with the Celtics.
