Celtics announce Kevin Garnett’s jersey to be retired on March 13, 2022

The Big Ticket finally gets a much-deserved honor.

The Boston Celtics have announced they will retire champion big man Kevin Garnett‘s jersey number on March 13, 2022. His No. 5 jersey will be raised into the rafters of the Celtics home court of TD Garden in a special ceremony kicking off at 3:30 pm ET ahead of a home tilt with the Dallas Mavericks.

Garnett, who won a title with the Celtics in 2008 after being traded there the previous summer from the Minnesota Timberwolves, would also win Defensive Player of the Year honors that same season and make 5 All-Star teams, an All-NBA First Team, and four All-Defensive teams among many other accolades while with the Celtics between 2007 and 2013.

Dealt to the Brooklyn Nets with teammates Paul Pierce and Jason Terry in the 2013 offseason, KG’s career with Boston was the capstone in a Hall of Fame career.

Injury likely deprived the South Carolina native of another title with the team, getting as close as the NBA Finals in 2010.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest big men to play the game, he deserves the honor of a jersey retirement after bringing Boston back to relevance with Banner 17.
