Cedrick Wilson to IR, Cowboys promote UDFA OL to 53-man roster

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Cedrick Wilson placed on injured reserved and replaced by undrafted free agent Mitch Hyatt.

The Dallas Cowboys have moved wide receiver Cedrick Wilson to injured reserve following the knee injury suffered in Week 14’s Thursday night game against the Chicago Bears.

His roster spot has been filled by rookie undrafted free agent offensive tackle Mitch Hyatt.

Wilson, a 2018 sixth-round pick out of famed Cowboys’ pipeline Boise State, hurt his knee in the waning minute of the loss in Chicago. The second-year player spent the entirety of his rookie campaign on injured reserve with a torn labrum. He played in six games for Dallas, sparingly aside from the loss against the New York Jets that fellow wide receiver Amari Cooper played only the first drive of before leaving injured.

Wilson was the forgotten man heading into training camp this year. He was ultimately kept on the 53-man roster though has seen plenty of time on the inactive list. On the year, Wilson has just five catches for 45 yards. He has contributed on special teams and has seen light punt returning duties.

His replacement, Hyatt, was a four-year starter for the national championship winning Clemson Tigers and was the player the Cowboys ponied up the most dough in terms of their undrafted free agent class. Despite being unable to make the Dallas roster, the move may indicate that the front office believes their is a future for him, as the move prevents him from being poached down the stretch of the 2019 NFL season.

Ideally, Hyatt will not see the field this season. Hyatt playing means there’s been injuries to either tackles Tyron Smith or La’el Collins, let alone swing tackle Cam Fleming.
