Cedric Tillman looks to become Vols’ first 1,000-yard receiver since 2012

Cedric Tillman looks to become Tennessee’s first 1,000-yard receiver since 2012.

Redshirt junior wide receiver Cedric Tillman is 69 yards away from recording a 1,000-yard season.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Tillman has totaled 57 receptions for 931 yards and nine touchdowns during the 2021 regular season.

Tennessee (7-5, 4-4 SEC) will play in the TransPerfect Music City Bowl against Purdue (8-4, 6-3 Big Ten).

The contest will take place Dec. 30 at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m. EST and ESPN will televise the matchup.

Ahead of the 2021 season finale, Tillman discussed being close to achieving a 1,000 yard campaign.

“Honestly, it would mean a lot,” Tillman said. “It’s something that I really worked for this year, and like I said, I’m going to do everything in my power to go get it, but also help my team win the game.

“If me getting 1,000 yards helps us win the game, I’ll be happy with that, if not and I got to do other stuff, then I’m cool with that too.”

Tennessee’s last 1,000-yard receiver was Justin Hunter in 2012. Hunter totaled 1,083 receiving yards during the 2012 campaign.
