The Washington Huskies have a lot of promise in 2024 under coach Jedd Fisch and CBS Sports’ Dennis Dodd appears to agree. Dodd ranked the Huskies as the No. 18 team in the country in his post-spring rankings thanks to their experience at quarterback.
Mississippi State transfer Will Rogers brings a perfect stopgap option to ease Washington into the post-Michael Penix Jr. era. He will also have some exciting options to throw to in wide receivers Denzel Boston and Jeremiah Hunter.
Thanks to the hire of defensive coordinator Steve Belichick, the Huskies should have an innovative scheme led by linebacker Carson Bruener and edge rusher Zach Durfee that could be a major improvement on Washington’s 2023 unit.
However, there are still plenty of questions to answer to justify the ranking, mainly along the offensive line. The Huskies struggled to protect Rogers and Demond Williams during the spring game and are still searching for multiple starters in the transfer portal.
Left guard Gaard Memmelaar should be ready for contact by the time fall camp arrives after recovering from a knee injury he suffered last season and the Huskies have also added center D’Angalo Titialii and guard Enokk Vimahi to bring depth and experience to the interior of the line.
If the Huskies can find a way to solidify the offensive line, Dodd’s ranking could be proven correct. [lawrence-related id=3277]
