CBS Sports ranks NFC West 2nd-worst division for running backs

CBS Sports ranks the NFC West as the second-worst division in the NFL based on their starting running backs.

The Seattle Seahawks are among a number of teams who pride themselves on their run game. However, Patrik Walker over at CBS Sports believes the NFC West is the second-worst division in the NFL when it comes to running back play.

Walker based his rankings on the following assumed starters: Seahawks Chris Carson, Cardinals Chase Edmonds, Rams Cam Akers and 49ers Raheem Mostert.

“Re-signing Carson was the smart thing to do in Seattle, as he continues to be one of the most underrated halfbacks in the entire league,” Walker writes of Seattle’s RB1. “He anchors this lot of starters and Edmonds will be made better by virtue of the Cardinals signing James Conner in free agency — if only because Edmonds knows he needs to establish himself as the alpha in the desert. It’s a similar dynamic to what’s in L.A., where Akers could stand to have a huge year in tandem with Darrell Henderson, and the 49ers are again stockpiling bodies at running back, but the fact they’re doing so means (outside of Mostert) they don’t have the wrecking ball other teams on this list do.”

Now in July, players report to training camp in less than a month and the real fun can begin.
