CBS Sports ranks Deion Sanders low among Power Four head coaches

CBS Sports didn’t show Deion Sanders much respect in its preseason head coach rankings

CBS Sports became the latest national outlet to share its uncertainty about Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders ahead of the 2024 college football season.

On Wednesday, CBS Sports released its preseason ranking of all 68 Power Four head coaches, as voted on by its staff and the staff at 247Sports. Coach Prime was ranked among the bottom 11% of Power Four head coaches at No. 61. Arizona State’s Kenny Dillingham (No. 64) was the only Big 12 head coach ranked lower than Sanders.

Here’s what CBS Sports writer David Cobb wrote about Sanders’ placement:

Sanders’ first season as an FBS coach started with a bang, but ended with six straight losses. He’s generated buzz and excitement by talking a big game and collecting strong transfer talent. But the foundation has cracks — see the offensive line for one example — as the Buffaloes transition to the Big 12 and face another tough schedule.

While Colorado does have a tough schedule, Sanders and the Buffs would point to their many offseason moves as to why that won’t matter. We’ll soon find out whether Coach Prime’s myriad of additions filled the “cracks” in Colorado’s foundation.
