For the second time we’ve seen this offseason, pending free agent and tight end, Rob Gronkowski, has been pegged as a potential signing of the Tennessee Titans.
In an article matching pending free agents with teams, CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin has Gronkowski landing in Nashville on a one-year, $8 million deal. Here’s his take:
“Mike Vrabel likes the tough guys, and Gronk’s personality fits right in. He brings pop as both a blocker and pass catcher, giving Tennessee a quick fix at a position of need. The one-year deal allows Gronk to ride into the sunset in 2023, if he chooses.”
Pro Football Network’s Adam H. Beasley also previously pegged the Titans as a potential option for Gronk.
The veteran tight end should definitely be on Tennessee’s radar in free agency. The Titans need an upgrade at the position, something Gronkowski would qualify as thanks to his ability as a blocker and pass-catcher.
The veteran had his best season since 2017 in 2021, reeling in 55 passes for 802 yards and six touchdowns — and he did so despite missing five games.
Injury is always a concern with Gronkowski, but the 32-year-old has proven he can still play at a high level when on the field. He’d be a great solution for a win-now team like the Titans, and wouldn’t need a long-term commitment.
Spotrac estimates Gronkowski will receive a one-year deal worth $9.5 million. That might be a little too rich for the Titans’ blood thanks to money being tight and the team not utilizing the position enough in free agency. Of course, we’d be much more comfortable paying what Benjamin projects.
If the Titans are willing to open up their wallet a bit to address the need in free agency, there is no more proven commodity on the open market than Gronkowski, who will likely come cheaper than other top options such as Dalton Schultz and Mike Gesicki.
