You’d be hard-pressed to find a more improved college basketball player during the 2020-21 season than Tre Mann. After a disappointing freshman season that didn’t see him live up to his hype as a five-star recruit at all, Mann came back with a vengeance his sophomore year.
After star forward Keyontae Johnson‘s season ended early following his collapse against Florida State, Mann stepped into the role of the team’s leader. He lived up to it this time, averaging 16 points and 5.6 assists.
He was great in the postseason, scoring 22 points and 30 points in Florida’s two SEC Tournament games and 14 and 19 points in the pair of NCAA Tournament games. Those performances saw his draft stock rise tremendously, which is why he made the decision to leave for the NBA with an agent.
That seems like it was a good call, as this latest mock draft from CBS Sports’ Gary Parrish has Mann projected to go 11th overall in the NBA draft to the New Orleans Pelicans.
Returning for a second season at Florida benefited Mann immensely as he averaged 10.7 more points per game, and shot 12.7% better from 3-point range, than he did as a freshman. He’s now considered a lock for the top 20 and somebody who can possibly flourish at three different positions in the NBA.
Mann is expected to end Florida’s NBA draft drought that dates back to Erik Murphy in 2013. The Gators haven’t had a lottery pick since Bradley Beal was taken third overall by the Washington Wizards in 2012.
