Time is running out for Florida basketball as the end of the regular season is rapidly approaching. As of now, the Gators lack a satisfactory résumé for an NCAA Tournament bid while facing some difficult competition coming up, starting with the final game of the schedule against the Kentucky Wildcats and continuing into the SEC Tournament next week.
Florida has been a tough team to nail down this season, with moments of brilliance often interspersed with dreadful droughts both during and between games. The Athletic even went as far as calling the Gators “aggressively average” in a bubble watch update back in February, which pretty much sums up a team with a 19-11 overall record and a 9-8 mark in SEC play.
While the general consensus agrees that UF is on the outside looking in, most of the media have Florida on the wrong side of the bubble. However, one bracketologist is feeling a bit more bullish on the Orange and Blue than the rest of them — CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm, who currently has the Gators among his last four in, consistent with his position in yesterday’s update. He also has the Memphis Tigers, Virginia Commonwealth Rams and Wake Forest Demon Deacons in the same category.
Palm’s optimism is a welcome sight for the Gator Nation, but those who have watched the games know better than to get their hopes too high. However, Mike White has not missed the Big Dance since his debut season in Gainesville and he just might be able to sneak his team in before the door is shut.
