Even before the coronavirus pandemic sent NFL games to be played behind closed doors or with limited attendance, you’d be able to hear the occasional comments at the line of scrimmage picked up by broadcast microphones.
But it becomes awfully difficult for crowd noise to drown out those pre-snap remarks when only 15,000 fans are in attendance. That set viewers up to experience some of Baker Mayfield’s trash talk during Sunday’s game between the Browns and Jaguars.
During the game, CBS microphones clearly picked up Mayfield talking trash to the Jaguars defense as the line shifted before the snap. (Warning: NSFW language)

Mayfield noticed that shift and said, “That was (expletive) cute, guys.”
OK, that was pretty great.
This is the first time in years that a Browns quarterback could reasonably talk trash to an opponent and not get laughed off the field. So, we’ll let Mayfield have this one — even if he did miss the easiest touchdown pass we’ve seen all year.
The Browns went on to win, 27-25. They’re 8-3 heading into Sunday’s game against the Titans.
