Rick Neuheisel, a former Pac-10 and Rose Bowl-winning quarterback at UCLA who coached Washington to a Rose Bowl victory nearly 20 years later, has opinions on the Big Ten football race. Neuheisel, interviewed by John Canzano at his Substack (subscription required), thinks that Oregon, not Ohio State, should be the favorite in the Big Ten this year.
Said Neuheisel: “I think Oregon is the favorite.”
Hold up.
Not Ohio State?!?
“Oregon has been beautifully constructed — both from high school recruiting and, also, the portal,” Neuheisel told me. He pointed out that Bo Nix, the most experienced starting quarterback in college football history (61 starts) is about to be replaced by a guy in Dillon Gabriel (49 starts) who is positioned to break Nix’s record.
“If he stays healthy,” Neuheisel said, “and that game is in Eugene when Oregon and Ohio State meet? I like Oregon.”
That Ohio State-Oregon game is on Oct. 12, a huge day in the 2024 college football season. It’s the same day USC hosts Penn State. Be sure to set aside that day on your calendar this fall.
