CB Malcolm Butler takes lighthearted jab at Bill Belichick following drill

Malcolm Butler took a playful swipe at Bill Belichick following Thursday’s practice.

New England Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler took a moment from the seriousness of training camp to lightheartedly poke fun at coach Bill Belichick.

The defensive unit was playing well as the end of Thursday’s practice came to a close. However, tight end Hunter Henry spoiled the defense’s good fortune on the final play of the afternoon, scoring a touchdown.

That touchdown forced the Patriots defense to have to do 10 pushups. Their earlier success that day did not allow them to escape from their punishment. It also gave Butler a chance to throw a playful jab at his head coach, as transcribed by NESN’s Greg Dudek.

“Man, I don’t know man. Looks like Bill Belichick is an offensive coach now. He ain’t on our side no more,” Butler said with a smile, per a video on Patriots.com. “But no matter if we hold those guys out of the red zone, I think we lost the one that counted the most. Championship defense. We’re going to compete, we’re going to finish to the end.”

Butler has a chance to be an important figure in the New England secondary, as the organization looks to rebuild the unit. Hopefully, he won’t have to do too many pushups as training camp progresses.
