Cavs’ Kevin Love calls Evan Mobley a ‘multitalented’ player

Mobley is highly touted for his versatility and the 7-footer believes that will be among his biggest assets this season.

Cleveland Cavaliers rookie Evan Mobley was highly touted entering the draft for his versatility and the 7-footer believes that will be among his biggest assets this season.

His teammates tend to agree with him, too.

Mobley projects to be a strong player on both ends of the floor to begin his career. His blend of size and athleticism, along with his instincts and switchability, make him a player capable of doing quite a few things on the court.

“I’ve seen Evan play, obviously, at the wrong school in USC,” Cavaliers forward Kevin Love said on Monday. “(He is) a multitalented kid. He can really pass the ball, (which is) something I’ve noticed, and is going to continue to develop into a really great player.”

The third overall pick averaged 11.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, three assists and 1.7 blocked shots in three games in the Las Vegas Summer League. He produced his best game on Aug. 11 with 14 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Mobley has spent much of the offseason in Cleveland in preparation for this season. He impressed teammate Collin Sexton with the strides he made in the gym as he looks to continue to get comfortable within the Cavaliers’ system on and off the court.

“I think, overall, I bring versatility,” Mobley said. “I feel like that is one of my strong suits so I can be a center or a power forward. I can play on the wing a little bit. I feel like that’s where I’m going to be most of this year, probably playing inside and outside.”

He noted the Cavaliers will be one of the youngest teams in the league this season but feels as though they have a chance to exceed expectations. He will have the opportunity to learn with other younger players as the team projects to have a bright future ahead.

After months of projections and scouting reports, the Cavaliers are close to finding out what Mobley can offer on the floor in meaningful games and he could be in store for a strong rookie campaign.
