Cleveland Cavaliers rookie Dylan Windler will undergo surgery to address a stress reaction in his left leg and will miss the remainder of the 2019-20 season, the team announced in a press release.
Windler is scheduled to have surgery on Jan. 21.
The first-round pick was diagnosed with a left tibial stress reaction in September and was initially expected to miss at least one month. The team and Windler opted to treat the injury with rehab, deciding against surgery at the time.
Windler first experienced the symptoms after a series of workouts before the start of training camp. After months of rehab, it was determined Windler will need surgery.

Windler played two games with the Canton Charge in the G League last month but was shut down following those appearances. He totaled 13 points and eight rebounds in 37 minutes of action.
After a stellar career at Belmont, Windler was on track to be a member of the Cavaliers’ rotation. Windler showed flashes in Summer League, averaging 10.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists in six games.
