Ohio State women’s basketball beats Michigan, advances to Big Ten Tournament Championship Game

The Ohio State women’s basketball team beat rival Michigan to advance to the Big Ten Tournament Championship Game against Maryland.

Poor Michigan. It just can’t seem to beat Ohio State at anything substantial these days. And so it was again Saturday night when the Buckeyes turned back the Wolverines 66-60 in the semifinal of the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament.

The Buckeyes will now face Maryland on Sunday for the 2019-2020 title, in a year in which its youth has continued to get better as the season has gotten longer in the tooth.

Ohio State controlled the game for a large portion, holding the lead for most of the contest from the 2nd quarter on, but Michigan wouldn’t quite go away. The Wolverines were able to tie it late at 47 points apiece with just seven minutes to go. But then the Buckeyes would go on a run and finish the game at the free-throw line despite the Wolverines getting it to a one-possession game a couple of times.

Five Buckeyes finished in double figures, with Madison Greene leading the way with thirteen points. It’s the second-straight game OSU had five players in double figures on a team that is maturing from multiple spots on the floor.

Tomorrow’s contest will be a rematch of the 2018 Big Ten Tournament Championship when Ohio State was able to take down the Terps. But this time will be more difficult.

Maryland has been the clear class of the conference all season, and OSU has yet to give the No. 1 seed a game this season, losing twice by an average of fifteen points. The Terps have won sixteen straight games.

It’ll all go down at 6 PM Eastern on ESPN2.
