Why Detroit Will Win

Atlanta finally came up with a win, but it was the first time all year the defense allowed fewer than 380 yards – Minnesota only got 365. Detroit’s offense might not be consistent enough, and there needs to be more of a deep passing game, but it came up with over 400 yards in last week’s win over Jacksonville and has the balance to get hot and hit an Atlanta D that gives up big pass play after big pass play.

Why Atlanta Will Win

Run the ball, keep running, and don’t stop the run. Atlanta has the passing game to bomb away against almost anyone, and the running game has been fine, but this needs to be Todd Gurley’s game. Jacksonville was held to 44 rushing yards last week, but on the season, Detroit is giving up close to five yards per carry with the fourth-worst run defense in the league.

Fantasy Football Player To Watch

TE TJ Hockenson, Detroit
Atlanta features one of the worst past defenses in the league and gets hammered by tight ends. You get the sense that Detroit is finding its identity on offense with a diverse stable of three backs, Kenny Golladay for the deep shots, and Hockenson in the Red Zone. Look for Hockenson to extend his two game TD streak against the sad Atlanta defense.

What’s Going To Happen

Atlanta might have found something now that Raheem Morris is in charge. The offense was good against Minnesota, the defense forced three takeaways, and it was the biggest scoring day of the season. The Falcons won’t be quite that good against Detroit, but they’ll make it two in a row in a wild shootout.

Why Cleveland Will Win

The running game is fine. It might have been stuffed by a jacked up Pittsburgh defense, but it should be able to get back to normal against a Cincinnati defensive front that’s been okay over the las few games, but allows over five yards per carry overall.

On the other side of the ball, the Bengal running game was a problem to begin with, and now it’ll be without Joe Mixon against a Brown run defense that could use the break.

Why Cincinnati Will Win

Cleveland will turn the ball over. It went mistake-free in two games, but in the other four it gave it up eight times. Cincinnati hasn’t had major turnover issues, but it’s been good for at least one giveaway – it has to at least keep the turnover margin close.

If there was ever a game to get the passing game going, this is it. The Brown secondary is the fourth-worst in the NFL despite the help from a strong pass rush, and Joe Burrow and the air show are rolling with 300 yards in two of the last three games.

Fantasy Football Player To Watch

RB Giovani Bernard, Cincinnati
It’s been Joe Mixon’s running game so far, but he’s out with a foot issue meaning Burrow will throw even more, and Bernard will get the ball in his hands in a variety of ways. He only has 44 rushing yards on the year with a touchdown, His last game with double-digit carries? 15 for 69 yards and two scores against Atlanta back in late September of 2018.

What’s Going To Happen

The Browns will get the offense back to normal. The attack will be balanced, Baker Mayfield will get off to a hot start, and … it’ll all be ugly. Expect each team to turn it over at least twice, but there will be plenty of passing yards and enough scoring to make this interesting late.

Why Pittsburgh Will Win

Does Tennessee have gas in the tank? Pittsburgh had a week off, it had a breather against Philadelphia, and then rolled at home against Cleveland. This might be the start of a three-game road run, but as things go seven weeks into the season, this is about as fresh as a team can be.

The Steeler pass rush is fantastic, the run defense is the best in the NFL – only one team hit 100 yards – and this is the week to get the ground attack going. For all of the good things Tennessee does, it’s not great against the run.

Why Tennessee Will Win

The offensive balance has been fantastic. Derrick Henry is playing like the NFL’s most valuable non-quarterback over the last few weeks, and Ryan Tannehill has been on fire for an O that cranked up over 600 yards against Houston and scored 42 points in each of the last two games.

There aren’t any major weaknesses so far with the Steelers, but for all the amazing things the defense does to get to the quarterback, the third down stops aren’t there like you’d think they’d be.

Fantasy Football Player To Watch

WR Chase Claypool, Pittsburgh
The Tennessee pass defense gives up a whole lot of yards and 13 touchdowns – the opportunities will be there for the Steelers to bomb away. Claypool is one of the hottest players in the NFL not named Henry with five touchdowns scored in the past two weeks.

What’s Going To Happen

Pittsburgh rose up to the challenge against Cleveland – its first game this year against a good team – but Tennessee keeps on figuring out how to win. Tannehill will be strong with the Steeler D bottling up Henry, but the offensive balance of the Steelers will be too good in the second half.

Why Carolina Will Win

The New Orleans defense doesn’t force mistakes. It only has two takeaways in the last four games, and the secondary has allowed way too many big things – giving up 15 touchdown passes and getting picked for over 200 yards a game by everyone but Detroit.

Drew Brees hasn’t cranked up the high-flying fun show of past years, but the offense should be able to spread it around just enough to keep things moving against a D that’s miserable on third downs.

Fantasy Football Player To Watch

WR Emmanuel Sanders, New Orleans
The 2020 Michael Thomas story grows more grim by the day – now he has “tweaked” his hammy in practice. Brees targeted Sanders and eye-popping 14 times for 12 catches and 122 yards in Week 5. Despite improving on defense, Carolina gets hit hard by decent receivers. Now Brees seems to have found his new guy.

What’s Going To Happen

The rested Saints will get the running game going early against the Panthers. This won’t be anything special, but it’ll be a good, methodical performance with a nice balance and a whole lot of chain moving. It’ll seem like New Orleans always has a 3rd-and-4, and it’ll seem like it always converts.

The New York Jets don’t have any semblance of a passing game. It didn’t matter if it was Joe Flacco or if it’s Sam Darnold, the Jets haven’t thrown for more than 200 yards since the opener against the Bills, and they only threw for 202.

The Bills didn’t quite have the offensive machine rolling yet in the opener, but in this, just get up early, and the NFL’s second-worst offense won’t have the ability to to keep up.

Why New York Will Win

Buffalo has stalled all of a sudden. The running game isn’t going like it should – it hasn’t hit 100 yards in any of the last three games – and Josh Allen hasn’t been able to make up for it through the air.

The team has just been … off. Playing Tennessee and Kansas City will do that, but the offense didn’t work against Las Vegas or Tennessee on the road, and it totally stalled against KC. The Jets have to keep this low scoring and the game in range.

Fantasy Football Player To Watch

RB Devin Singletary, Buffalo
The Bills are coming off their worst offensive performance of the year, and getting everything back starts with getting the ground game going. Getting back Zack Moss will help, and Josh Allen has to run more, but Singletary needs more work. He only has one touchdown and hasn’t hit 75 yards.

What’s Going To Happen

The Jets might be a punching bag, but they’ll play tough. They’ll hang around for a half, and then the Bills will finally break through with a few big pass plays to open it up. Buffalo will win by double-digits – because the Jets have yet to come closer than ten points of anyone by Denver – but it won’t be a total wipeout until late.

The Football Team doesn’t have the pop or or the firepower to keep up if the Cowboys can get up fast. As bad as the Dallas defense might be, now it gets a Washington Football Team with no running game and a passing attack that hasn’t hit 275 yards yet this season. The Washington O doesn’t convert this downs, and it doesn’t go on long drives. Dallas needs to run and control things … more on that in a moment.

Why Washington Will Win

It’s too much to suggest that Dallas has quit, but it sure wasn’t focused and ready to play against Arizona last week. The defense continues to be at a whole other level of awful – allowing 400 yards of total offense or more in four of the six games – all losses. If Washington was ever going to pound the rock, this would be the week. Everyone who can run is doing it without a problem.

Fantasy Football Player To Watch

WR Terry McLaurin, Washigton
Despite averaging a whopping 9.5 targets per game, McLaurin has managed to only score one TD. No matter what, against this Dallas D, you start ‘em if you got ‘em. This is an all-time bad Cowboys defense that allowed 30+ points in every game and is ranked 30th against receivers.

What’s Going To Happen

Let Zeke eat … if he can hold on to the loaf of bread.

He made a point of not wanting to fumble anymore, and then he had massive fumbling issues against Arizona. But it’s this simple. Dallas is 2-0 when allowing fewer than 400 yards of total offense, and is 0-4 when it allows more.

Washington has yet to hit the 350-yard mark.

He’s staying healthy, and he’s hitting the home runs with two 100-yard days in the last three and a touchdown catch in each of the last four games.

Bye week, bye week, bye week. Arizona is coming off a three game road trip and two straight wins, but it’s dealing with a rested Seahawk team that looked worn down defensively in the win over Minnesota. Arizona will look to make a statement, but it’ll have to deal with a fresh Chris Carson along with Wilson and the passing attack.
