Buzz Williams’ Pre Game Press Conference ahead of Texas A&M vs. Arkansas

Hear what Head coach Buzz Williams had to say before Texas A&M’s home rematch vs. the Arkansas Razorbacks on Wednesday night.

Texas A&M (18-7, 10-2 SEC) is preparing to take on the visiting Arkansas Razorbacks on Wednesday night in a rematch from their first meeting on Jan. 31st, where the Aggies fell 81-70 in frustrating fashion. Winners of their last three games, Head coach Buzz Williams has his team or their best shape both mentally and physically to take on the final stretch of the regular season, their toughest portion of the schedule all season.

Coming off of their 12-point 74-62 victory over the LSU Tigers on the road last Saturday, sophomore guard Wade Taylor IV scored a game-high 23 points going 5-8 from 3-point land, followed by 13 points from guard Dexter Dennis, who went 3-5 from deep as both players hit all 8 three-pointers on the night.

The Razorbacks are three days removed from their 70-64 home loss against Mississippi State, falling to 6-6 in the SEC, needing to most likely go .500 or better in the conference in order to reach the NCAA Tournament.

Before the game, Head coach Buzz Williams spoke to the local media to preview the matchup, while giving a brief glimpse ahead into the latter half of the regular season heading into March. Here is what he had to say.

GAME PREVIEW: Texas A&M vs. Arkansas

Before the Aggies take on the Razorbacks in a highly important rematch on Wednesday night, here’s a quick preview of the impending matchup

Texas A&M (18-7, 10-2 SEC) is in the final stretch of the regular season with just six games remaining in SEC play, and with some of their toughest matchups left on the docket, a visit from the Arkansas Razorbacks (17-8, 6-6 SEC) is just the first obstacle in their way to not only earning an NCAA Tournament bid but becoming one the more feared opponents heading into March.

On Wednesday night, Arkansas is coming into Reed Arena after a disappointing home loss to the surging Mississippi State Bulldogs while sitting in the middle of the SEC at 6-6, most likely needing to finish at .500 or better in order to safely secure a spot in the Tournament, but as we’ve seen in the past couple weeks in conference play, no one is safe.

Despite their underwhelming performance against the Bulldogs, the Razorbacks have won three out of their last five, including an 88-73 win against Kentucky at Rupp Arena on Feb. 7th. the scoring trio consisting of junior guard Ricky Council (16.9 ppg), freshman guard Anthony Black (13.2 ppg) and junior guard Devonte Davis (11.0 ppg) is still as intimidating as ever to game plan for, as Head coach Buzz Williams knows all too well after all three recorded double digits scoring efforts in their first meeting.

As a team, Arkansas is averaging 74.5 ppg, 35.6 rebounds, 70.3% from the free throw line, and an impressive 47.8% from the field, but only 30% from 3-point range, worst than the Aggies’ 32.5 % from deep. In comparison, Texas A&M is averaging 75 ppg, 37 rebounds, 75% from the free throw line, and shooting 45% from the field, and a slightly better 32.5% from deep.

Defending the perimeter is a must for the Aggies if they want to avoid a repeat of last month’s loss, one of the few areas the team has struggled with in SEC play, even within their 10 wins. Offensively, Wade Taylor IV has been the predominant playmaker as of late, but I believe that this will be another inside game with an emphasis on rebounding and scoring at the rim, whether it’s a healthy mixture of Julius Marble and Henry Coleman in the low post, or Tyrece Radford slashing to the basket to set up outside shooting looks.

The Aggies are in the midst of a three-game winning streak after handily defeating LSU 74-62 on Saturday night, and do possess home-court advantage this time around while looking for revenge against the team that embarrassed them defensively for much of their Jan 31st meeting. However, knowing that the Razorbacks will be in full desperation mode to earn what would amount to a Quad 1 victory for their tournament resume gives this the feeling of a neutral court showdown against two hungry programs.

The game with the is set for Wednesday, Feb. 14th at 8:00 PM CT. and will air on ESPN2.

Head coach Buzz Williams reflects on the Aggies 74-62 win against LSU

On the latest episode of the “Buzz Williams Radio Show,” Williams reflects on the Aggie’s 74-62 win over LSU on Saturday night

Texas A&M (18-7, 10-2 SEC) has sent a clear message to the college basketball world since the start of SEC play, reaching 10-2 in the conference after defeating LSU 74-62 on Saturday night, sitting comfortably in second place behind the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide. Even with the program’s recent success, the “Bracketology” community is split on their belief in the Aggies as a Tournament team this season, even after being ranked 25th in the newest USA TODAY Coaches poll on Monday afternoon.

In a collective team effort, the Aggies were once again led by the team’s leading scorer Wade Taylor IV, who netted 23 points and 4 assists against the Tigers, including a 5-8 line from 3-point territory. Witchita State transfer Dexter Dennis scored 13 points on 3-5 from deep, while Tyrece “Boots” Radford provided 12 points and 8-12 from the free throw line, helping seal the game in the final seconds at the charity stripe.

Without his normal after-game press conference, Head coach Buzz Williams made his normal appearance on “The Buzz Williams Show,” to reflect on the win against the Tigers on Saturday night, plus how the team is preparing to take on Arkansas in a home rematch with plenty of postseason ramifications on the line. Here is what Coach had to say during his interview with “Voice of the Texas A&M Aggies” Andrew Monaco.

Aggies top #5 LSU 38-23 in season finale!

Aggies top #5 LSU 38-23 in season finale!

They did it! The Aggies finally showed up, and put a full 60-minute football game together. I the process, they showed everyone why they were ranked so highly coming into the 2022 season.

They faced a mountain of adversity in 2022, but with one opportunity left, they did what many thought they’d never be able to do.

Running back Devon Achane returned after missing two games due to injury and rushed for over 200 yards and 2 touchdowns, and quarterback Conner Weigman showed the poise, and the ability that he had flashed in prior games, and threw 2 touchdowns of his own. Wide receiver Moose Muhammad made several huge plays, and Evan Stewart got in on the act as well.

Defensively, Demani Richardson made the play of the night, scooping up a Jayden Daniels fumble and raced 27 yards for a massive Aggie touchdown.

Jimbo Fisher couldn’t have asked for a better way for his program to finish the season, and they’ll likely ride this momentum all the way into the 2023 season.

Aggies Volleyball Head coach Laura “Bird” Kuhn has been relieved of her duties immediately

Aggies Volleyball Head coach Laura “Bird” Kuhn has been relieved of her duties immediately

On Monday, Nov. 21st, it was announced that longtime Texas A&M women’s volleyball Laura “Bird” Kuhn was relieved of her duties, effective immediately. Athletic Director Ross Bjork gave a brief statement regarding the firing, stating,

“The goal for all our teams at Texas A&M is to perform at a consistently high level and compete for conference and national titles,” Bjork stated. “Given the recruiting base in Texas and support for volleyball, we believe that we can and should be better and that is what the 12th Man deserves. Coach Kuhn is a great person, and we appreciate her service to Texas A&M. We wish her well in her future endeavors. We will begin a national search for a new leader of our volleyball program as we continue toward our mission of creating opportunities through championship athletics.”

Kuhn spent five years in the head coach postion, accumulating a 76-60 (.559) overall record, yet had a major dropoff during the 2022 season, as the team went 13-16, with a glaring 5-13 record in the SEC. Under Kuhn, the Aggies made the postseason only once during the 2019 season, reaching the regional finals before falling to the eventual national finalists Wisconsin Badgers.

As expected, Kuhn made a farewell statement while recognizing her career with the Aggies:

“I’m thankful for this opportunity,” Kuhn stated. “I’ve learned and grown so much in my time here. I love all the players that have come through and all the people that have impacted us as a staff. Texas A&M is a really special place and I appreciate all the energy, resources and the people. Going forward, I know they are going to be great. This is a great place and it’s going to be a great program.”

Good luck to Laura Kuhn on her next coaching opportunity.

Aggies host the UMass Minutemen in first ever program match-up

On Saturday, the Aggies host the (1-9) Minutemen who haven’t won a road game since October 2018.

The Texas A&M Aggies haven’t won a football game since the month of September and Saturday afternoon should finally be the day this 6-game losing streak comes to an end.

Thanks to a team that hasn’t won a road game since October 2018 – a narrow Minutemen win at UConn – and find themselves (1-9) with a 7-game losing streak at hand, I can confidently (…finally) predict the Aggies’ misery comes to an end after some narrow SEC defeats extended their current losing streak (4 of their 6 consecutive losses have been one-possession games).

With only two more regular-season games left in 2022, and no post-season to play for, you hope that there’s enough pride in the locker room to battle for two victories – playing spoiler for LSU along the way – in an attempt to build towards the 2023 season. Time will certainly tell.

The Aggies host the Minutemen on Saturday at 11:00AM CT. This will be the first ever match-up between these two programs.

Texas A&M vs Auburn Tigers: Injury Report, broadcast info for Saturday Nov. 12th

Texas A&M vs Auburn Tigers: Injury Report, broadcast info for Saturday Nov. 12th

In what has become a lost season for both programs, the Texas A&M Aggies, led by 5th year head coach Jimbo Fisher and freshman quarterback Conner Weigman will take on the Auburn Tigers, led by interim head coach Carnell “Cadillac” Williams.

Both teams hold 3-6 overall records, and are 1-5 in conference play, nursing 5 game losing streaks. The winner of this week’s matchup will hold out hope for a bowl berth for atleast one more week, while the loser will be on the outside looking in come December.

The amount of adversity the Aggies have had to attempt to over come in the 2022 season is almost unbelievable at this point, but the team has seemed to remain bought in and competitive.

Here is what you need to know headed into the matchup:

Final Injury report ahead of Texas A&M vs. Auburn

Final Injury report ahead of Texas A&M vs. Auburn

Giddy up yall, because of this blatantly painful season of Texas A&M Aggies football, I know many of you may be counting down the days until we’re discussing the 2023 season, but keep that focus on Saturday’s matchup with the equally bad Auburn Tigers, as the Aggies will enter a sold-out Jordan-Hare stadium for their 6:30 PM CT. Kickoff.

Earlier this week on Monday to be exact, head coach Jimbo Fisher spoke to the media while reflecting on their 41-24 loss to Florida just a day beforehand, previewing their upcoming game vs. Auburn, and most importantly, discussing the current injury report after the flu ravaged locker room left 6 players unable to play against the Gators, including starting quarterback Conner Weigman.

After losing center Bryce Foster, guards Aki Ogunbiyi, and Jordan Spasojevic-Moko for the season, the team was dealt a couple more blows as starting Edge Fadil Diggs and cornerback Deuce Harmon are officially out for the rest of the season.

Weigman has practiced all week and is slated to start against Auburn on Saturday, while defensive back Antonio Johnson’s status is still unknown after missing the Florida game. Aside from ill-timed injury rumors that float around just days before each game, which we will not give merit, this is where the injury report stands barring any last-minute changes.
