UFC Edmonton review: Is Brandon Moreno still a title threat? Did Erin Blanchfield show evolution?

Brandon Moreno and Erin Blanchfield both came through with big wins at UFC Edmonton. We discuss on “Spinning Back Clique.”

Big things are happening in both the UFC men’s and women’s flyweight divisions.

This past Saturday at UFC Fight Night 246, former UFC champion [autotag]Brandon Moreno[/autotag] returned after taking a break from MMA competition to defeat streaking contender [autotag]Amir Albazi[/autotag] in the main event. In the co-main, [autotag]Erin Blanchfield[/autotag] got her hand raised after going toe to toe in a hard-fought decision with former champion [autotag]Rose Namajunas[/autotag].

What’s next for Moreno and, more importantly, is he still a threat to the title? Did Blanchfield show evolution, and should UFC grant her wish to fight Alexa Grasso?

MMA Junkie’s Brian “Goze” Garcia, Nolan King, Danny Segura and host Gorgeous “George” discuss the performances and what should come next for the fighters involved.

Video: Should interim welterweight title be implemented with Belal Muhammad out of UFC 310?

Should UFC implement an interim title following Belal Muhammad’s UFC 310 withdrawal? We discuss on “Spinning Back Clique.”

Bad news: Welterweight champion [autotag]Belal Muhammad[/autotag] is out of UFC 310, and that leaves the division in a bit of a quandary.

Muhammad suffered a nasty toe infection that left him no choice but to pull out of his first UFC title defense, which was scheduled to be against undefeated contender [autotag]Shavkat Rahkmono[/autotag] in the UFC 310 main event on Dec. 7. Muhammad’s withdrawal puts the UFC in a tricky situation as it traditionally bolsters its final pay-per-view of the year.

So, who could slide in as a replacement for UFC 310? Should the UFC consider implementing an interim welterweight title? If so, who should fight for it?

MMA Junkie’s Brian “Goze” Garcia, Nolan King, Danny Segura, and host Gorgeous George discuss the latest surrounding Muhammad’s injury and how it can impact UFC 310 and the landscape of the welterweight division.

Spinning Back Clique REPLAY: Brandon Moreno’s return, Belal Muhammad out of UFC 310, Max Holloway’s move

On “Spinning Back Clique,” the panel discusses Brandon Moreno’s return, Belal Muhammad’s UFC 310 withdrawal and much more.

Check out this week’s “Spinning Back Clique,” MMA Junkie’s weekly live show that takes a spin through the biggest topics in mixed martial arts.

This week’s panel of Brian “Goze” Garcia, Nolan King and Danny Segura will join host “Gorgeous” George Garcia live at noon ET (9 a.m. PT) to discuss and debate the following topics:

  • UFC Fight Night 246 went down Saturday in Canada and left us with two key results at men’s and women’s flyweight. In the main event, former champion [autotag]Brandon Moreno[/autotag] successfully returned to action after taking a break from the sport by dominating [autotag]Amir Albazi[/autotag] in a unanimous decision win. Also, [autotag]Erin Blanchfield[/autotag] outpointed [autotag]Rose Namajunas[/autotag] in a hard-fought decision to cement herself as a top title contender. What happens next? We discuss.
  • Bad news. UFC welterweight champion [autotag]Belal Muhammad[/autotag] suffered a foot injury and was forced out of his title bout against [autotag]Shavkat Rakhmonov[/autotag] in the main event of UFC 310. This leaves a big hole to fill since the bout was scheduled to headline the final pay-per-view of the year. Should the UFC implement an interim title? If so, who should fight for it? We react to Muhammad’s injury and how it impacts both UFC 310 and the welterweight division.
  • A lot of news went down this past week, including fight bookings and retirements. Former UFC champion [autotag]Germaine de Randamie[/autotag] announced her retirement from the sport; the UFC booked a key welterweight bout between [autotag]Ian Machado Garry[/autotag] and [autotag]Joaquin Buckley[/autotag] for December; and featherweight all-time great [autotag]Max Holloway[/autotag] revealed he is moving back up to lightweight. We analyze those headlines and more.
  • We close out the show by previewing Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 247 event in Las Vegas. We break down the welterweight bout between [autotag]Neil Magny[/autotag] and rising contender [autotag]Carlos Prates[/autotag] headlining the card, along with other standout bouts.

UFC Edmonton preview: Moreno vs. Albazi winner gets title shot? Can Blanchfield bounce back vs. Namajunas?

Could the winner of Brandon Moreno vs. Amir Albazi get the next title shot at flyweight? We discuss on “Spinning Back Clique.”

UFC returns this weekend with a Fight Night event in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, which features two very important flyweight bouts.

On the men’s side, former champion [autotag]Brandon Moreno[/autotag] returns from a short break from MMA to welcome [autotag]Amir Albazi[/autotag] back to competition after a series of surgeries. On the women’s side, ex-UFC strawweight titleholder [autotag]Rose Namajunas[/autotag] looks to extend her winning streak by taking on young contender [autotag]Erin Blanchfield[/autotag].

Who will leave UFC Fight Night 246 with their hands raised? Could the respective winners in each flyweight bout potentially get the next shot at the title in their divisions?

MMA Junkie’s Brian “Goze” Garcia, Dan Tom, Danny Segura, and host “Gorgeous” George preview the main and co-main event of UFC Fight Night 246 and look at the potential upside for the winners of Saturday’s card.

Grading UFC 308 winners: Magomed Ankalaev, Lerone Murphy and Shara Magomedov’s wild KO

What’s next for Magomed Ankalaev, Lerone Murphy, Shara Magomedov after their UFC 308 wins? We discuss on “Spinning Back Clique.”

UFC 308 was certainly a big night for Ilia Topuria and Khamzat Chimaev, but there were others on that card that shinned as well.

[autotag]Magomed Ankalaev[/autotag] demented himself as the No. 1 contender in the division by defeating Aleksandar Rakic in a unanimous decision, [autotag]Lerone Murphy[/autotag] also won on the scorecards, defeating veteran Dan Ige, [autotag]Shara Magomedov[/autotag] picked up one of the wildest knockouts of 2024 by putting away Armen Petrosyan.

Should Ankalaev get the next title shot? Is Murphy ready for the top dogs at featherweight? What’s the ceiling on Magomedov? What should be next for these winners after their respective victories?

MMA Junkie’s Brian “Goze” Garcia, Dan Tom, Danny Segura and host “Gorgeous” George discuss some of the big wins under the top billing of Saturday’s UFC pay-per-view event in Abu Dhabi.

Video: UFC CEO Dana White beefs with Francis Ngannou, PFL. Who’s right?

What to make between the Dana White vs. Francis Ngannou and PFL back and forth? We discuss on “Spinning Back Clique.”

There was some big cross-promotional trash talk this past week.

PFL’s [autotag]Donn Davis[/autotag] had some bold claims following their pay-er-view event PFL: Battle of the Giants, and those comments rubbed UFC CEO [autotag]Dana White[/autotag] the wrong way. And as expected, White fired back at Davis while also taking a shot at former UFC heavyweight champion [autotag]Francis Ngannou[/autotag], who left the promotion after fighting out his UFC contract in 2022 to fight under the PFL banner.

Were Davis’ comments uncalled-for? Should he continue to agitate and fire shots at White and the UFC? Will White come to terms with Ngannou and his departure from the promotion?

MMA Junkie’s Brian “Goze” Garcia, Dan Tom, Danny Segura, and host “Gorgeous” George discuss the latest headlines in the White vs. Ngannou and PFL beef.

Video: Should Khamzat Chimaev leapfrog Sean Strickland for a title shot after UFC 308?

Khamzat Chimaev entered the chat in a big way at UFC 308. Is he up next for a title shot? We discuss on “Spinning Back Clique.”

The UFC middleweight title picture just got more interesting with [autotag]Khamzat Chimaev[/autotag]’s latest win.

This past Saturday, Chimaev crushed former champion Robert Whittaker by first-round submission in the co-main event of UFC 308. Chimaev not only kept his undefeated record, but he also re-established himself as a top contender in the division.

However, even though champion Dricus Du Plessis has yet to be booked for his second title defense, UFC CEO Dana White has publicly said that Sean Strickland is up next for a crack at the belt. But will he end up getting the shot following Chimaev’s latest impressive win?

MMA Junkie’s Brian “Goze” Garcia, Dan Tom, Danny Segura, and host “Gorgeous” George discuss Chimaev’s big win over Whittaker and whether it was enough to leapfrog Strickland.

Video: Did Ilia Topuria steal Fighter of the Year from Alex Pereira with UFC 308 KO of Max Holloway?

It felt like Alex Pereira had Fighter of the Year in the bag until Ilia Topuria’s incredible knockout of Max Holloway at UFC 308. We discuss on “Spinning Back Clique.”

[autotag]Ilia Topuria[/autotag] has had quite the year in 2024.

Not only did the undefeated featherweight become UFC champion and complete a successful title defense, but he did so by cleanly taking out two of the greatest featherweights of all time in Max Holloway and Alexander Volkanovski.

Topuria’s feat at Saturday’s UFC 308 is not the only great run of 2024. UFC light heavyweight champion [autotag]Alex Pereria[/autotag] has completed three title defenses, stopping Jamahal Hill, Jiri Prochazka, and Khalil Rountree Jr – all under relative short-notice or unideal circumstances.

So this leaves the question: Did Topuria do enough this past Saturday to surpass Pereira in the Fighter of the Year discussion for 2024?

MMA Junkie’s Brian “Goze” Garcia, Dan Tom, Danny Segura, and host “Gorgeous” George discuss Topuria’s big win, along with his standing on Fighter of the Year.
