Steve shares his story about how he went from his first time in a race car to national champion in four years (maybe it’s in the genes). He breaks down going back and forth from a Formula Vee to an FE2 car on the same weekend. We also get Steve’s take on the recent changes in SCCA national classing and how it’s affected the FV class.We also hear how Steve deals with sibling rivalry on the track. It’s a great conversation that made me take a look at some things from a little different viewpoint.

Cameron Parsons is my guest and we talk about the ups and downs of being a professional race car driver. It sounds romantic but there are remarkably few people who make their living exclusively behind the wheel. Most have side hustles, coach other drivers and find other ways to make ends meet. Cameron has managed to keep himself behind the wheel, run his own teams, and work in the industry that keeps him in contact with people that can write checks.

On episode 215 of Inside the SCCA presented by RaceSchool.com, David Pintaric and I preview this weekend’s Super Tour at Road Atlanta. We also talk about low car counts for GT-1. GT-1 used to be one of the two premiere classes in the SCCA. What happened? Why aren’t more cars coming to the track despite the large number of cars out there that could be racing competitively today? What can be done to change that? Is Trans-Am siphoning drivers away?

On episode 211 of Inside the SCCA presented by RaceSchool.com, we connect Ted Burns. Ted is a Formula F driver and he is among a group of people working to grow the class. Back in the day Formula Ford was crazy popular. Over the years that popularity has diminished in the U.S. That was reflected in SCCA’s decision to change the way the small open-wheel classes qualified for the Runoffs. It was a wake-up call — and a call to action — for drivers in those classes. Now there’s a renewed urgency to bring it back to the popularity it once had. We’ll talk with Ted about the work that’s underway and the plans for this year and beyond.
