The lineup of drivers and cars have been confirmed for the first IROC event in more than 20 years. Scheduled for July 19-20 at Lime Rock Park, IROC will enhance an already exciting SpeedTour All-Star Race weekend.

Featuring both an on-track racing exhibition and static display, the event will reunite original IROC competitors with cars raced in the legendary series. Mark Martin, a 96-time winner across NASCAR’s top-three series, 13-time IROC race winner and five-time IROC series champion, will be one of the drivers piloting the historic IROC cars at Lime Rock Park.

“I have always said that the crown jewel of my racing career is what I was able to achieve in IROC,” said Martin. “The event at Lime Rock Park is going to be an exciting opportunity to reminisce about those great times and to reunite with some of the best people in motorsports.”

Joining Martin as other former IROC competitors driving in the event will be Greg Biffle, Geoff Brabham (two-time IROC race winner), Davy Jones, Bobby Labonte (three-time IROC race winner and 2001 IROC series champion), Max Papis, Ken Schrader and Danny Sullivan (one IROC race win). In addition to this impressive list of former IROC drivers, the event will include four-time NASCAR Truck Series champion Ron Hornaday, Grand-Am Sports Car Series and Trans Am champion Boris Said and 1995 NASCAR Truck Series champion Mike Skinner.

An equally exciting component of the event at Lime Rock Park will be approximately 20 authentic IROC race cars spanning over 30 years of racing history. The oldest are a pair of 1974 Chevrolet Camaros — one driven to victory at Riverside International Raceway by Bobby Allison in 1975, and utilized again in 1976 by A.J. Foyt to clinch his second IROC championship; the other was raced by Foyt in 1975, as he finished second to Bobby Unser by just two feet, in what was the second-closest IROC finish in history.

The newest car is a 2005 Pontiac Firebird raced by four-time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves. In November 2005, Castroneves drove the car to a fourth-place finish at Atlanta Motor Speedway in his final IROC start.

The event will also reunite several of the original racers with their cars, as former IROC winners return. Fans will instantly recognize the lime green No. 14 Dodge Avenger, which won three times with three drivers from three different disciplines: F1’s Martin Brundle, NASCAR’s Dale Earnhardt Sr., and IndyCar’s Al Unser Jr. However, it will be the car’s final driver who will get to reunite with it at Lime Rock Park — Mark Martin.

Fans will also recognize the red 1984 Chevrolet Camaro, which is believed to be the most period-correct 1984-era IROC Camaro in existence. Owned by Richard Childress, this car was raced by Dale Earnhardt twice in the 1980s.

Of course, there will be cars that were driven by not only the best names in motorsport, but also those of Hollywood fame. The School Bus Yellow No. 15 1978 Chevrolet Camaro was driven to victory by both Cale Yarborough and Darrell Waltrip, as the two NASCAR Hall of Famers were among 31 drivers who turned laps in the car. However, that count doesn’t include actors Paul Newman, Clint Eastwood, James Brolin and Gene Hackman, who enjoyed a private test day in the car at Sonoma Raceway in December 1977.

“We have received such an overwhelmingly positive response from fans since announcing our event at Lime Rock Park and I believe this impressive lineup of legendary drivers and historic IROC cars will just keep that momentum going,” said Ray Evernham, co-principal of IROC Holdings. “It will truly be a unique experience for fans to get up close and personal with cars that have been driven by racing royalty. From Fittipaldi to Earnhardt, Foyt to Martin. These cars are truly time capsules that represent racing on a worldly scale. Pair that with being able to shake the hands of some of the legends that drove them and you have a once-in-a-lifetime experience for race fans.”

“We’re thrilled to have IROC join us at the SpeedTour All-Star Race,” said Tony Parella, CEO of Parella Motorsports Holdings. “As a racing fan, there was nothing better than IROC—it brought together all the best drivers from all forms of motorsports. Personally, I’m really excited to witness this all coming together — with so many of the original cars and drivers — it’s going to be great.”

All-time Pikes Peak record holder Dumas returning with Ford

Romain Dumas, the all-time course record holder at Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, will return for the 102nd running of the event on Sunday, June 23 driving a new electric Ford F-150 Lightning SuperTruck. “I am glad to come back to Pikes Peak. …

Romain Dumas, the all-time course record holder at Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, will return for the 102nd running of the event on Sunday, June 23 driving a new electric Ford F-150 Lightning SuperTruck.

“I am glad to come back to Pikes Peak. It’s always great to be on the mountain and meet the fans again,” said Dumas. “It’s obviously nice to continue the journey with Ford Performance and it’s quite exciting to have a new car to continue the development of electric technology.”

Last year, Dumas raced to the summit in the Pikes Peak Open division behind the wheel of a Ford Performance SuperVan 4.2 (pictured), winning the division and finishing second overall.

“We always want to do better,” he said. “Our target is clearly to be fast, but to state a time I expect to run…that is still a bit mysterious because at Pikes Peak you have to expect the unexpected.”

In 2018, Dumas raced the all-electric Volkswagen ID R to the summit of Pikes Peak in 2018 to set the existing record of 7m57.148s on the 12.42-mile (20 km) course consisting of 156 turns that boasts an elevation gain of 4,725 feet (1,440 meters).

Titus Sherlock (No. 31 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3) won his second race of the weekend in Formula Regional Americas Championship (FR Americas) on Sunday afternoon.

Recording the fast lap in yesterday’s Race 2, Sherlock led the field down the starting grid. With Ryan Shehan (No. 66 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3) to his outside, Sherlock drove wide into Turn 1 to take a commanding lead of the race.

Shehan faced immediately competition from Patrick Woods-Toth (No. 27 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3), but within a lap, they sorted the running order into a nice straight line, with less than two seconds separating the top-three teammates. An early safety period gave Shehan a second shot at Sherlock, but Sherlock was able to protect his line and maintain the race lead. With the frontrunners once again fanned out, Woods-Toth was running third when he went through the grass in Turn 11 and spun across the track before coming to a rest in Turn 12. Another full-course caution ensued as the Canadian’s car required a tow, and the clock ran out before the race was able to resume.

As they crossed the finish line, Sherlock led the field, with Shehan in his mirrors in second. Nicole Havrda (No. 6 Valley Kitchens Ltd / Colonial Countertops Ltd Ligier JS F3) snuck into third to claim the final podium position.

“It was a tough race,” said Sherlock. “I was under a lot of pressure from Ryan [Shehan] the whole time. I was trying to hit my marks the best I could, and luckily, I came away with a win.”

FR Americas takes on Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for its next round, June 20-23.

Stati wins in F4 U.S. as Ligier JS F422 debuts at Road America

Nicolas Stati (No. 15 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F422) cruised to victory in Formula 4 United States Championship’s (F4 U.S.) Race 1 at Road America on Saturday afternoon. The race marked the debut of the new Ligier JS F422 chassis with its …

Nicolas Stati (No. 15 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F422) cruised to victory in Formula 4 United States Championship’s (F4 U.S.) Race 1 at Road America on Saturday afternoon. The race marked the debut of the new Ligier JS F422 chassis with its Ligier Storm powerhouse, and served as the season opener for the 2024 F4 U.S. season.

In a race that stayed green from flag to flag, Stati cruised to victory after bringing the field to the green flag in a rolling start. In qualifying, the top-four drivers were only separated by 0.637s, and the race battle started out just as tight, with drivers racing two- and three-wide toward the first turn. While working the first lap, Alex Crosbie (No. 41 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F422) spun off the exit of Turn 6, dropping him from the third position.

Pablo Benites Jr. (No. 44 Scuderia Buell Ligier JS F422) had rolled off fifth, but was able to capitalize on the opportunity to move up to third by the completion of the first lap. Stati pulled away, as Benites Jr. looked to apply pressure to second-place runner Daniel Quimby (No. 24 Cruise America / MIR Raceline / FIJI Airways / GalvanizeIns Ligier JS F422). With the two racing side by side, Connor Roberts (No. 46 ApexSpeed.com / Entrophy Cellars Ligier JS F422) was able to close in, making a three-way battle for second.

With Benites Jr. dropping two tires off the racing surface on the exit of Turn 12, Quimby drove away, and Roberts pulled on the gearbox of Benites Jr.’s No. 44. Roberts pulled next to Benites Jr. as they raced down the frontstretch, completed the pass as they entered Turn 1 and never looked back. With the clock ticking down, Stati, Quimby and Roberts all marched forward, eventually taking the checkered flag in that order.

“It was a great race,” said Stati “I controlled the race from the beginning—the car was great, and I was able to maintain the lead with a stable gap. I really like this Ligier JS F422 car. It’s more stable to drive and easier to maintain quick lap times than some of the other cars I’ve driven in championships around the world. The engine sounds really cool. It’s just a lovely car to drive.”

F4 U.S. will take on the 14 turns of Road America for Race 2 Sunday morning at 10:25 a.m. CT. A live feed from the Road America Jumbotron will be available at YouTube.com/SpeedTourTV.

Sherlock earns first FR Americas win in Race 2 at Road America

Titus Sherlock (No. 31 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3) earned his first-career win in Formula Regional Americas Championship (FR Americas) at Road America on Saturday afternoon. After an intense battle with his teammate, Patrick Woods-Toth (No. 27 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3), during this morning’s race, the two once again found themselves in a heated contest for victory in Race 2. As Woods-Toth ran into trouble late in the race, it was Sherlock who cruised to victory, taking the win with an 8.073-second margin over second-place Ryan Shehan (No. 66 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3).

After winning Race 1 from the pole, Patrick Woods-Toth once again led the field down the starting grid for Race 2 this afternoon. With Sherlock to his outside in the second starting position, the two raced side by side toward the first turn when the lights went out. Not to be left out, Shehan pulled up in the mix, making it three wide as they raced toward Turn 5. Woods-Toth ultimately emerged the leader, but Sherlock stayed tight on his gearbox. Driving deep into Turn 5, Sherlock overdrove the corner and went wide to give Woods-Toth a one-second advantage.

Determined to make up his lost ground, Sherlock stayed focused, hitting his marks. As the race reached halfway, Sherlock was back on Woods-Toth’s rear wing. They raced wheel to wheel headed toward Turn 5, but Woods-Toth held the advantage as they raced through the corner. As they came to Turn 6, Sherlock had the preferred line on the inside and was able to complete the pass and start pulling away. As the clocked ticked down, Woods-Toth’s pace slowed before an off in Turn 11 sent him down pit road to the attention of his crew. Removed from contention, Shehan inherited the second position, while Sherlock found himself with a six-second advantage.

As they crossed the line, it was Sherlock in first, followed by Shehan in second. Nicolas Ambiado (No. 55 TLink / Allegro Ligier JS F3) crossed the line in third. However, a post-race steward’s decision determined that Ambiado jumped the start, and the driver was assessed a five-second time penalty, which relegated him to fourth in the final results. With the decision, Nicole Havrda (No. 6 Valley Kitchens Ltd / Colonial Countertops Ltd Ligier JS F3) moved to third on the final results sheet.

“[Patrick Woods-Toth and I] had a good battle at the start; I think something happened to [Patrick] after we made contact, but I don’t believe I had any fault in that. After that, I put my head down and ran the fastest and most consistent laps I could. I have to thank the whole Crosslink Kiwi team—Jamie, Oscar, Garry, Gill, Teena—my uncle Tony and my mom back home.”

FR Americas wraps up their weekend at Road America with Race 3 Sunday afternoon. Fans are invited to join the drivers and cars on pit lane for a fan walk at 12:00 p.m. CT, before the lights go out for their final race of the weekend. A live feed from the Road America Jumbotron will continue to be available throughout the weekend at YouTube.com/SpeedTourTV.

Zelenka wins JSF4 Race 1 at Road America

Teddy Musella (No. 25 Scuderia Buell Ligier JS F4) led the field down the starting grid as the pole sitter for today’s Race 1 at Road America, with Majman on his outside in second. Zelenka lined up in third, but with a great jump was able to overtake the second position as they raced through Turn 1. With the top-four drivers breaking away as they raced through Turn 6, the rest of the pack raced two by two, leading to contact deep in the pack and ultimately a full-course caution. Quick cleanup allowed the field to return to green-flag conditions the next lap, and the race maintained pace from there.

Musella led the field to the green flag, with Majman and Zelenka in hot pursuit. Drew Szuch (No. 28 Szuch Racing Ligier JS F4) joined the battle and the top four started to break away from the field. As the race reached its halfway point, Majman, Musella and Zelenka pulled ahead to battle for the lead, while Szuch started to fall into the grips of Harbir Dass (No. 49 Berg DMG Racing Ligier JS F4) and Kekai Hauanio (No. 29 N.E.Where Transportation / New’T Racing Ligier JS F4) in a fight for fourth.

With Majman, Zelenka and Musella swapping positions more than anyone could count, Hauanio pulled away from Dass and Szuch, looking to join the fight for the lead. Hauanio started to apply pressure to Musella, while Zelenka and Majman duked it out for the top step of the podium. As they crossed the line, the top four drivers were all two by two, with Zelenka beating Majman by mere feet, and Musella sneaking across the finish line ahead of Hauanio to claim the third and final podium position.

“Today was all about the draft and thinking ahead,” said Zelenka. “When it comes to the draft, it’s not about speed, it’s about managing the gaps to everybody and making sure you’re there in the end. It wasn’t really the tooth-and-nail battle that it looked like. We were giving each other some space and allowing everyone to stay together. If you race too hard, you’re going to lose the leader. We were all cognizant of the fact that we had to stay there in the end.”

Ligier JS F4 will contest Race 2 at Road America tomorrow morning at 9:05am CT, with Race 3 scheduled to go lights out at 2:20pm CT.

Woods-Toth holds off Sherlock to win FR Americas at Road America

Patrick Woods-Toth (No. 27 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3) emerged the winner in the opening race of the weekend for Formula Regional Americas Championship (FR Americas) at Road America. A hotly-contested race, wheel-to-wheel battles emerged throughout the entire field, with Woods-Toth having to hold off the advances of his teammate, Titus Sherlock (No. 31 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3), during a one-lap shootout to the checkered flag.

Woods-Toth led the field down the starting grid, but it was Sherlock who got the jump when the lights went out. With Sherlock completing the pass to overtake the lead by the time they reached Turn 1, Woods-Toth stayed tight on his gearbox as they worked through the opening turns. As they approached Turn 5—one of the best passing opportunities at the 4.048-mile circuit—Woods-Toth decided to brake late and drive to the inside of Sherlock. Racing side by side, the two engaged in a heated battle all the way through Turn 7, when Sherlock drove a bit too wide, giving up a couple positions and allowing Woods-Toth to drive away.

[lawrence-auto-related count=3 category=1431]

Opening up over a 5s lead as the race passed its halfway point, Woods-Toth appeared to have an easily-sailing path to victory. In the meantime, Jett Bowling (No. 02 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3) was engaged in a tight battle with Nicole Havrda (No. 6 Valley Kitchens Ltd / Colonial Countertops Ltd Ligier JS F3), Ryan Shehan (No. 66 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3) and Justin Garat (No. 17 Speed Factory Ligier JS F3) while competing for the fourth position. With just 12 minutes left on the clock, Bowling went wide on the exit of Turn 12, lost control of the rear of his car and spun around to make contact with the wall. An extensive cleanup ensued, which put Woods-Toth back on the defense for a one-lap shootout finish.

As the green flag waved, Sherlock pulled tight on Woods-Toth’s gearbox and raced side by side all the way through Turn 8. As they raced through the Carousel, Woods-Toth cleared Sherlock, holding the lead and taking the checkered flag with just a 0.215s advantage.

“The yellow came out at about the worst time for us,” Woods-Toth said on the podium. “We were pushing pretty hard to get a good gap; we weren’t saving any tires there. When the yellow came out, I knew it was going to be a fight. I just had to stay out of trouble. It was a good race with Titus [Sherlock]; he did a good job.”

FR Americas is back on track Saturday afternoon for race two at 5:25 p.m. CT. A live feed from the Road America Jumbotron will continue to be available throughout the weekend at YouTube.com/SpeedTourTV. Live timing and scoring can be accessed on the Race Monitor app, and additional news and updates from the Road America SpeedTour will be posted on the series’ Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Acura Integra Type S DE5, Legge to take on Pikes Peak

Acura and Honda Racing Corporation USA (HRC US) will enter a new Acura Integra Type S DE5 in this year’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. The Acura will be entered in the Time Attack 1 category, driven by IndyCar and IMSA veteran Katherine Legge.

HRC’s newest race car, the DE5 was developed by Acura’s North American racing arm from the production Acura Integra Type S premium sports compact, and is the latest in a line of highly successful HRC-developed touring cars, including the versions of the 10th generation Honda Civic Si and Type-R; and the 11th generation Civic Si FE1.

Eligible for competition in multiple racing series, the Integra Type S DE5 made its competition debut earlier this year with podium finishes in the opening rounds of the SRO Touring Car America series at Sonoma Raceway and Sebring International Raceway.

“Motorsports is a critical component of Acura’s commitment to Precision Crafted Performance, and its Pikes Peak efforts are a pure expression of this ethos,” said John Whiteman, HRC commercial Manager. “All of our Acura race team entries are prepared and crewed by our engineers to further sharpen their performance-focused skills. This is the performance brand’s 14th consecutive year competing at Pikes Peak, with the Acura team amassing an impressive 12 first place in-division finishes, 27 podiums and multiple records.”

Legge, who will be attempting to qualify for her fourth Indianapolis 500 this weekend, will be adding Pikes Peak to an impressive list of ‘firsts’ for the 43-year-old British native, who now makes her home in the Atlanta area.
Recently inducted as the first female member of the Grand Prix of Long Beach Walk of Fame, Legge is a multi-race winner in IMSA competition, holds the record for the fastest qualifying effort for a woman in Indianapolis 500 history, set in 2023; was the first woman to lead overall in both Champ Car (2006) and American Le Mans Series (2013) competition; and was the first woman to win a major open-wheel race in North America in 2005.

“This is a race that I’ve wanted to compete in since I first heard of it, which is for as long as I can remember,” Legge said. “The legacy of this event is enormous, and so many famous drivers have tackled the mountain: the Unsers, the Dallenbachs – including my friend Paul – Parnelli Jones, Mario Andretti, Rick Mears and Michele Mouton. I can’t wait to get there! It’s magical and something I’m not taking lightly!”

Like the 11th generation Civic Si FE1 race car, the Integra Type S DE5 is designed, developed, and assembled inside Honda’s state-of-the-art North American facilities employing groundbreaking technologies in weld, body construction, painting, final assembly and quality confirmation to ensure the highest levels of precision and craftsmanship.

The Acura Integra Type S DE5 will be powered by a modified version of the factory 2.0-liter turbocharged four cylinder K20C8 engine. The racing version of the engine, co-developed by HRC US and HRC Japan produces in excess of 360hp. That power is then directed to the wheels via a six-speed sequential, paddle-shift transmission to HRC US developed suspension and brakes. The body shell is purpose built from a body-in-white which deletes all unneeded street vehicle components – such as soundproofing, underbody coating and seam sealers – and is fitted with a safety roll cage; then completed with aerodynamic components and cooling upgrades.

In addition to the Integra driven by Legge, the Honda-associate run Honda of America Racing Team (HART) will be returning to Pikes Peak with an Acura Integra A-Spec driven by Paul Hubers from Honda’s Auto Development Center (ADC) in Ohio. The HART Integra has received key modifications to the powerplant and chassis to enhance its performance in this year’s 102nd running of the ‘Race to the Clouds.’

The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is one of America’s longest running motorsports competitions. Since 1916, drivers from all over the world, in a wide variety of vehicles and from multiple motorsports disciplines, race against the clock as they take on the 156-turn, 12.42-mile mountain course, starting at 9,390 feet and climbing to the 14,115-foot summit.

PMH Powering Diversity Scholarship recipients excelling on and off the track

The 2024 Class of the Parella Motorsports Holdings (PMH) Powering Diversity Scholarship came out of the gate strong to kick off their race seasons. Comprised of 14 drivers racing in the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli, Ligier JS F4 Series, Formula Regional Americas Championship (FR Americas) and Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA), the class has already added race wins, poles, podiums and career-best finishes to their stats. In its fourth year, the PMH Powering Diversity Scholarship looks to create a more diverse grid while empowering drivers from a variety of backgrounds to participate in PMH-owned race series.

“We’re only a few races into the 2024 season, but it already brings me great pride to see the accomplishments of this year’s PMH Powering Diversity Scholarship class,” said Tony Parella, CEO of PMH. “This program plays such a vital role in helping young drivers by making sure that they’re given a chance to chase their dreams.”

The Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli has completed three rounds to open the 2024 season with races at Sebring International Raceway, Road Atlanta and NOLA Motorsports Park. Two-time Trans Am Series TA champion Amy Ruman (No. 23 McNichols Co. Chevrolet Corvette) kicked off the season with a podium—her first podium since April 2022.

In the SGT class, Kaylee Bryson (No. 02 Logical Systems Inc./Sam Pierce Chevrolet Corvette) leads the Rookie of the Year standings after earning her first-career Trans Am victory in just her fourth series start. She currently sits second in the SGT point standings. Also running in SGT, Jenn Krpata (No. 93 Island Trees Auto Chevrolet Camaro) made her debut at Road Atlanta last month, earning a top-five finish with her family-owned team.

In Trans Am’s CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series, Rafa Matos (No. 60 Concord American Flagpole/Nitro Motorsports Ford Mustang) has gotten off to a record-breaking start, launching his season on the podium. At NOLA, the two-time champion earned his first pole of the year and went on to take the checkered flag. The victory was the 21st of his career, making him the winningest driver in TA2 history.

Matos’ teammate Michele Abbate (No. 30 GHOST/Nitro Motorsports Ford Mustang) is having her most successful season to date, earning podium finishes in her first two starts. Abbate is competing part time in the National Championship’s Pro/Am Challenge and in the Western Championship. Her first two race weekends have garnered career-best results, with runner-up finishes at both Road Atlanta and Sonoma. Another Nitro Motorsports talent, Tyler Gonzalez (No. 40 Nitro Motorsports Ford Mustang) has been a breakout star, scoring two podiums in the season’s three opening races. The 19-year-old currently leads the Rookie of the Year standings and is second in the Young Gun Award standings.

As FR Americas opened their 2024 season at NOLA Motorsports Park earlier this month, all three scholarship recipients brought home top-10 finishes. Justin Garat (No. 17 Speed Factory Ligier JS F3) placed inside the top 10 for all three races, while Nicole Havrda (No. 6 Valley Kitchens Ltd/Colonial Countertops Ltd Ligier JS F3) recorded a weekend-best sixth, and Landan Matriano Lim (No. 73 739Racing Ligier JS F3) scored a weekend-high seventh-place finish during his series debut.

The Ligier JS F4 Series joined FR Americas in opening their season at NOLA, where Maite Cáceres (No. 6 Abitab / Supermatch Ligier JS F4) became the highest-finishing woman in any series on PMH’s open-wheel ladder. Cáceres had a career-best weekend, recording top-five finishes in all three races—including a second- and third-place result—and became the first woman to lead the field down the starting grid with a pole in Race 3. Christopher Parrish (No. 83 Save22 Ligier JS F4) had the best on-track performance of his career, earning top-10 finishes in all three races, including a career-best fourth-place result. Harbir Dass (No. 49 Berg DMG Racing Ligier JS F4) ran his Ligier JS F4 chassis in the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) event at Road Atlanta as a warmup for his season. Winning that race, Dass will spend the remainder of the year competing in the Ligier JS F4 Series. A fourth PMH Powering Diversity Scholarship recipient, Ava Hanssen, will make her Ligier JS F4 Series debut this summer—after she celebrates her 14th birthday to become eligible to compete in the series.

While Taylor Ferns has yet to make her SVRA debut for the 2024 season, the 28-year-old has already received a significant promotion in her open-wheel career, being called up to INDY NXT with ABEL Racing to compete in a four-race schedule.

The 2024 class of PMH Powering Diversity Scholarship recipients will continue to chase their motorsport dreams as green flags wave across the country. For details on upcoming SpeedTour events where you can catch these drivers in action, visit SpeedTour.net.

WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca: Something for everyone

If you have time from May through to September, then settle in at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca when the track will be buzzing practically non-stop. If you’re not so fortunate to be able to hunker down for that long, you’re going to have some choices to make. Luckily, there are plenty of great options.

The biggest change in 2024 sees the NTT IndyCar Series move to a new date for the Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey, June 21-23. Last September, thanks in large part to the full-course repaving, IndyCar’s race cars smashed the official track record, with Christian Lundgaard setting the new qualifying record of 1m06.4610s during qualifying round 2. The track is sure to be extremely fast again, the new surface having fully bedded in following a year of racing. But will the date switch affect anything else?

“I don’t think there will be a huge difference with the race being earlier in the year,” says Felix Rosenqvist, whose pole-winning lap in the Firestone Fast 6 was just 0.02s shy of the record. “The track is a pretty low-deg track to begin with, so even if the temperatures are warmer, I don’t think it will be drastically different. It will definitely be interesting to see how it all plays out and we’re excited to head out there this summer. It’s a track that I like a lot and have done pretty well on in recent years, so hopefully this year will be the same.”

The season kicks off with three consecutive weekends of sports car racing, beginning May 2-5 with the Laguna Seca SpeedTour Presented by Mission Foods. SpeedTour offers a bounty of series to feast on, headlined by the Trans Am Presented by Pirelli Western Championship. Joining in are a plethora of vintage cars from SVRA, along with sports prototypes from PSSA, a field of young guns in FIA FR Americas, and more.

Next up are the IMSA WeatherTech SportCar Championship’s hybrid GTP prototypes and a huge array of GT3 machinery in its GTD Pro and GTD classes to headline the Motul Course de Monterey presented by Hyundai N, May 10-12. This will be IMSA’s first outing on the repaved circuit, which is now in prime condition for the GTP cars to turn in some astonishingly fast laps.

The IMSA weekend wouldn’t be complete without great racing from the Michelin Pilot Challenge, Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup and Lamborghini Super Trofeo, too.

The sports car trifecta is completed by an extra special visit from Ferrari Racing Days. Not only will the Ferrari Challenge North America be competing, but Laguna Seca has the honor of being one of only four global venues in 2024 to host Ferrari Corse Clienti. That will see a number of historically significant racing Ferraris that are currently in private hands, including some recent Formula 1 machinery, breaking cover for a weekend of track action in the sun.

Since 2003, Ferrari Corse Clienti has offered a small group of enthusiasts the chance to own Formula 1 cars that have been raced by Scuderia Ferrari (ABOVE, 2004’s ultra-successful F2004).

Two-wheeled racing highlights July, with the return of the MotoAmerica Superbike SpeedFest of Monterey, headlined by the Steel Commander Superbike Class, on the 12th through to the 14th.

August 10-17 will be extra special this year as Laguna Seca celebrates 50 years of historic racing. The event as we know it today, the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, traces its roots back to the original Monterey Historic Automobile Races established by Steve Earle in 1974. Then, as now, the event set a new standard for historic racing, requiring that all running cars have a documented racing provenance and are still in period-correct trim.

What began at the height of spring ends with the late days of summer as GRIDLIFE in all its tire-smoking, sliding glory takes over with its unique form of automotive entertainment.

Spoiled for choice, WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca has something for everyone.
