An elite deep threat that can open up the Philadelphia passing game; Worthy needs to improve against press coverage.

8 standouts from QB, RB, WR workouts at 2024 NFL Scouting Combine

Xavier Worthy broke the most coveted combine record, but he wasn’t the only player who stood out Saturday.

The most coveted and treasured NFL Scouting Combine record fell Saturday.

On the very last run of the day, Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy took a shot at improving the ridiculously fast time of 4.25 seconds that he did on his first 40-yard dash attempt. Not only did he beat his first run, Worthy’s 4.21 on the second try now stands as the fastest any player has ever finished the 40-yard dash since the NFL began officially recording times.

While it was easily the most climactic moment of the 2024 combine, it wasn’t the only impressive showing Saturday.

With quarterbacks, running backs, and wide receivers performing for NFL scouts, coaches, and general managers, these eight players stood out most:

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a new combine speed champion!

Texas Longhorns wide receiver Xavier Worthy blazed his name into the NFL Scouting Combine record books on Saturday. Worthy ran the fastest 40-yard dash in the event’s history, flying over 40 yards in just 4.21 seconds.

After initially being clocked at a record-tying 4.22 seconds, the official adjustment shaved off .01 of a second, giving Worthy the record all by himself. He edges out wideout John Ross, who ran a 4.22 back in 2017.

Report: Bears could be close to trading Justin Fields to Atlanta

Some reports indicate the trade market for Justin Fields has been slow, but others are saying a deal could be coming soon.

The latest buzz surrounding Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields has been confusing, to say the least over the last couple of days. Earlier on Saturday, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported that there isn’t much of a trade market for the electric quarterback, calling it “soft for now.” But that’s not what another NFL insider is saying.

According to Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda, the Bears are close to finalizing a deal that would send Fields to the Atlanta Falcons. Pauline isn’t sure if something will be announced before the NFL Combine ends this weekend and doesn’t list any sort of compensation the Bears would receive in return. He also indicates that if the two sides cannot reach an agreement, the Falcons will focus on landing veteran quarterback Baker Mayfield in free agency. Atlanta has been the presumed favorite to land Fields in a deal for the last week or so, though Russini’s report indicates it has been “hard to find strong interest from any team.”

It’s become clear the Bears are gearing up to move on from Fields and select a quarterback at the top of the 2024 NFL Draft, likely Caleb Williams. General manager Ryan Poles told reporters last week that if they were to move on from Fields, they would want to do so sooner rather than later. A deal has to make sense for Chicago, though, and perhaps they’re not seeing the return they want in a possible trade. With other quarterback options waiting in the wings, Poles may need to take a deal that isn’t as lucrative if he wants to stick to his timeline. Otherwise, the Bears may need to hold onto Fields to try and maximize his value.

Fields’ future continues to hang in the balance, but if Pauline’s report is correct, the mystery could be over soon.

Ravens had formal meeting with Oklahoma offensive tackle Tyler Guyton at NFL Combine

The Baltimore Ravens held a formal meeting with Oklahoma offensive tackle Tyler Guyton at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine

The Ravens face tough decisions at the offensive tackle spot entering free agency, with Ronnie Stanley and Morgan Moses potentially salary cap casualties.

Baltimore is always ahead of the curve at retooling the roster, and they’ve started to assess elite talent like Tyler Guyton.

The Oklahoma All-American offensive tackle confirmed a formal meeting with Ravens brass at the combine on Friday.

At 6-7, 328 with 34 1/4-inch arms, Guyton’s frame and movement skills are elite, and he’s stout enough to anchor down against an elite power rusher.

Guyton already got Lane Johnson’s approval for the first round and could lead Baltimore into another Super Bowl window.

Malik Nabers already has close bond with Caleb Williams

Malik Nabers and Caleb Williams bonded over Call of Duty. Could they soon team up with the Bears?

The Chicago Bears are sitting in a prime position to land two franchise playmakers with a pair of top-10 picks in the 2024 NFL draft. While there’s little doubt about who Chicago is expected to take at No. 1 (Caleb Williams), there’s more discussion about the direction they could go at ninth overall.

In a perfect world, one of the top wide receivers will fall to the Bears at No. 9, and Chicago could pair their rookie QB with another talented wide receiver to jumpstart his development.

Perhaps that’ll be LSU’s Malik Nabers, who happens to already have a bond with Williams.

“I talk to Caleb all the time,” Nabers said, via 670 the Score. “He always talks about that I’m a great receiver. I’m just waiting for that day to be called.

“We started playing Call of Duty with each other, and then that relationship, when you’re a football player and you’re able to connect with another football player, it’s just like your brother really.”

Nabers said he’d be happy to be drafted by the Bears — where a likely pairing with Williams would await — but he’d be grateful for any opportunity.

“I’m happy to go anywhere where I’m wanted, where I’m wanted to be one of those receivers they move around, can create, can give me the ball,” Nabers said. “So anywhere where I’m able to do those things.”

Chicago needs to address wide receiver this offseason. DJ Moore is the only proven wideout on the roster, so it’s a position that could be addressed both in free agency and the draft. If Chicago were to land Nabers, what would they be getting in a receiver?

“I’m able to go outside and inside, so I’m able to create space whether it be with a corner that’s outside, a slot guy, safety,” Nabers said. “So I’m able to play different positions. I feel that’s what makes me great, really, that I can go against eight DBs a game and still average 100 yards a game.”
