10 Cowboys Links: Predraft press conference, multitude of mocks, trading up in the cards?

A collection of news links to review on NFL Draft Eve.

The Dallas Cowboys brass held their annual pre-draft press conference on Tuesday, and it was filled with interest tidbits and flat-out lies. Once again, salesman Jerry Jones told the media that they were elated not to pay Randy Gregory, conveniently forgetting that everyone saw it play out in real time. Meanwhile the truth about how many prospects earned first-round grades was revealed.

With now just over 24 hours remaining before the NFL draft begins, final mocks are flowing and looking to identify who will go where. Should the club trade up over the weekend or use all of their selections? What’s the latest word from legend DeMarcus Ware? Here are 10 links to review with your morning coffee.

Cowboys News: Trade up for Hamilton? Ron’Dell Carter reunion? Jimmy Johnson’s flawed chart?

One outlet eyes a first-round trade up for Dallas; a look at how Jimmy Johnson’s famed trade value chart is wrong (and everybody knows it). | From @ToddBrock24f7

The predictions for what Dallas will do with the 24th pick are still all over the map. Our latest mock assumes that Kenyon Green is the target, but also that Kenyon Green is gone by the time the Cowboys have their turn. One outlet gives a nod to Zion Johnson for book smarts, while no one can seem to agree on Tyler Linderbaum. And one analytics expert says the Cowboys should trade up to take (hold onto your hats, Cowboys Nation) a safety. And we’ve got a fascinating look at that famed trade value chart that Jimmy Johnson created: the one that still gets used by teams today… even though they all seem to know it’s inherently flawed.

All that, plus a former Cowboy with potential- and at a position of need- is back on the open market, a franchise legend passes on a part of his legacy to a successor, Micah Parsons is getting several second chances this week during his homecoming, and details on how the Cowboys faithful can soak in this year’s draft day festivities at the team’s headquarters. That’s all ahead in News and Notes.

Cowboys News: What WR market means for CeeDee Lamb, Tony Pollard as Dallas’ Deebo?

Huge WR paydays this year could mean a holdout in Dallas next year; casting Tony Pollard in a Deebo role; Dak Prescott on Kelvin Joseph | From @ToddBrock24f7

The wide receivers are turning the NFL on its head this offseason. In this edition of News and Notes, we look at how the massive paydays being rung up by several pass-catchers could impact the Cowboys’ new WR1 twelve months from now. And while teams scramble to figure out a way to make a bid for the multidimensional services of a certain 49ers wideout, we look at how the Cowboys could perhaps DIY their own Deebo out of current running back Tony Pollard.

Also ahead, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott shares how he’s able to support a teammate going through a time of trouble, a Cowboys star makes the “most overpaid” list, and Tony Romo struggles in crunch time to come up just short on the links. All that, plus more draft previews: a look at an unorthodox selection at No. 24, a seven-round mock that features double Nittany Lions and two small-school surprises, a pair of injured prospects that could become big-time bargains, and what the analytics say about how good the Cowboys front office really is at getting value in the draft.

With less than a week to go before the NFL draft, Cowboys fans are still clinging to the hope that the Joneses will jump into the free agency pool with every name that surfaces. Stephen Jones gave a politically-correct answer on Friday when asked in a roundabout way about 49ers star Deebo Samuel. And former Seahawks defensive back is talking comeback, which means Dallas is once again considered a landing spot.

Denzel Ward’s new deal just reset the market for Trevon Diggs; plus larger Hall of Fame classes and big needs for Dallas special teams. | From @ToddBrock24f7

Few places prove the butterfly effect like the NFL. The Cleveland Browns work out a new deal with one of their superstars, and just like that, the Cowboys are already probably writing a larger check to Trevon Diggs over a year in the future. We lead off with what Denzel Ward’s contract means for the Dallas corner.

Cowboys News: Dreams of Deebo; Amari Cooper, Bobby Wagner dish on their Dallas dealings

Deebo Samuel’s desire to leave the 49ers has Cowboys fans eyeing their WR needs closely; also, an update in the Jerry Jones paternity case. | From @ToddBrock24f7

Cowboys fans were already lamenting the state of their WR room as well as their team’s lack of action in this offseason. And that was before 49ers superstar Deebo Samuel reportedly announced he wants out of San Francisco. Addressing the receiving corps immediately-perhaps even before the draft- just became a hot topic in Dallas again. All this as new Browns receiver Amari Cooper speaks publicly for the first time about leaving the Cowboys.

Bobby Wagner is dishing, too, explaining what went wrong with his apparently-extensive talks about joining the Cowboys. Two Cowboys safeties are eyeing new teams with in-person visits, Travis Frederick is shooting down any notion of an NFL comeback in his future, and we’re looking at possible compensatory picks for 2023. All that, plus an update in the Jerry Jones paternity case, and a look back at how the league has evolved its stance on marijuana usage by players. That’s all ahead in News and Notes.

Cowboys Weekend News: Draft prospects aplenty, Joseph not among those arrested

Debates on top cornerbacks, Cowboys’ fits for the top receivers, details on BC’s Zion Johnson and two arrests made in the Joseph situation.

With the 2022 NFL Draft 11 days away, the Cowboys’ decisions at No. 24 and beyond looms large. Boston College offensive guard Zion Johnson seems to be the overwhelming pick, but will Dallas surprise anyone and go after another weapon?

Alabama’s Jameson Williams and Western Michigan’s Skyy Moore are receivers to keep an eye on for the Cowboys, especially Williams if he slips down the board for Dallas to make a decision. On the other side of the ball, LSU’s Derek Stingley Jr. and Cincinnati’s Ahmad Gardner are the most recent draft debate for Mike Crum, and he goes back and forth with LP Cruz about who’s the best in this draft.

Two arrests were made after Kelvin Joseph met for several hours with homicide investigators and the second-year cornerback currently faces no charges in the March 18 murder.

Cowboys News: Latest Joseph updates, including mock to protect from worst-case, Pollard pub

Cowboys news and notes full of potential draft targets, 7-round mocks, Kelvin Joseph latest news, and much more. | From @AsaHenry_55

Shocking news broke earlier in the week that police wanted to interview Dallas Cowboys cornerback, Kelvin Joseph, in reference to his association with a murder committed on March 18 in Dallas. On Friday both Joseph’s attorney and the Cowboys released statements regarding the situation.

With less than two weeks until the NFL draft, how does that impact the Cowboys plans? Check out a 7-round Cowboys mock draft that takes the potential corner need into account, and still delivers a draft Cowboys fans should be thrilled to have. Plus, four prospects to target should Dallas trade-up in Round 1, eight players that are “sleepers” at pick 24, and a ranking of the Cowboys positional need.

Cowboys News: Joseph sought after, list of draft picks club will avoid at all costs

Details on the Kelvin Joseph news, receivers who can replace Amari Cooper and who Dallas is likely to not select on draft day. @CDBurnett7 takes a look at the latest news in Cowboys Nation.

The Cowboys’ nightmare offseason continues with cornerback Kelvin Joseph now being a person of interest for the Dallas police after an altercation lead to a murder in March. A second-round selection in 2021, he played sparingly as a rookie but gained traction late in the season.

Looking toward the draft, wide receiver is a position of need and there’s a long list of talented players that can step into the void created by the Amari Cooper trade. Wide receiver might not be the biggest hole on offense, though. The offensive line lost La’el Collins, while Tyron Smith continues to deal with injuries. Will Dallas try to find another cornerstone offensive lineman like Zack Martin?

On the other side of the ball, the Cowboys could select another LSU linebacker. Damone Clark is a second-round talent, but a back injury will keep him out of the 2022 season. Could Dallas take the gamble like they did with Jaylon Smith?
