Steelers WR JuJu Smith-Schuster’s maturity questioned by HC Mike Tomlin

Steelers HC Mike Tomlin is clearly displeased with the latest TikTok antics of his wide receiver.

The latest off-field antics of Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster were the buzz across social media on Monday, so, of course, the topic was broached in head coach Mike Tomlin’s press conference.

When a reporter asked if he has a message for players that participate in potentially dangerous activities via social media, a clearly miffed Mike Tomlin replied (per the Tribune’s Chris Adamski), “I don’t spend a lot of time focused on those things. If you’re talking about those things and not football, you’re setting yourself up for failure.”

“We’re singularly professionally focused on what it is that we have to do, and guys [players] have individual responsibilities as adults.”

Video surfaced of Smith-Schuster participating in the Milk Crate Challenge, the latest viral challenge craze to hit TikTok.

It seems if it’s not one thing, it’s another with JuJu Smith-Schuster’s infatuation with social media self-promotion. It’s a selfish act that reflects poorly on his teamsmanship. The Steelers are rightfully focused on football with the goal of being the best in the league when the 2021 season is all said and done. When the regular season starts, Smith-Schuster better produce or it’s certain he’ll be another team’s headache next season.

Ben Roethlisberger on what makes Steelers HC Mike Tomlin special

The man who knows Mike Tomlin the best in Pittsburgh is the one who’s been with him the longest, Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger.

The Pittsburgh Steelers boast something that no other club in the NFL can — unwavering stability at the head coach level. When Mike Tomlin was named head coach of the Steelers in 2007, he became just the third head coach in five decades.

Tomlin, who’s never had a losing record as a head coach, embarks on his 15th regular season next month.

Who knows Mike Tomlin the best in Pittsburgh? None other than legendary Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who was entering his fourth season as a pro when Tomlin was hired to lead the Steelers.

“In 15 years, he hasn’t changed a lot. That’s what I think is unique and neat. He’s still the same guy,” Roethlisberger said of Tomlin on SiriusXM’s recent Training Camp Tour stop in Pittsburgh.

“He’s evolved and grown as a coach and a leader, but in terms of who he is, I don’t think he’s ever going to change that. I think that’s what makes him special, why he’s endeared himself to this city, to the fanbase, the team, the owners, all of that.”

The endearing continues for at least three more seasons. The Steelers signed Tomlin to an extension in April.

Why Pittsburgh Steelers HC Mike Tomlin doesn’t care about Najee Harris

What’s best for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Mike Tomlin right now may not be best for Najee Harris’ career longevity.

The number one job of any head coach is to do what’s best for his team. This coach, in particular, happens to be Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, and what may be best for his team could very well come via the ground game.

The Steelers drafted Najee Harris in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft to revive a last-ranked run game. Now entering his 18th season, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is in the twilight of his career and needs a run game to be successful season-long.

Why doesn’t Tomlin care about Harris? Tomlin, who signed a three-year contract extension in April, keeps him in Pittsburgh through the 2024 season. In all likelihood, Tomlin won’t be around to see the end of Harris’ career or need him to be productive.

Tomlin ran Le’Veon Bell until his wheels fell off. Bell hasn’t been productive since he left Pittsburgh in a greedy tizzy. You can’t blame Tomlin — the organization and its fans tend to not care about a player once he’s no longer in the Black and Gold, anyway.

If history repeats itself with Tomlin and his star running back, Najee Harris will get the ball early and often. And it won’t be long until we’re saying Harris isn’t the same back he was early in his career.

And that career — especially for NFL running backs — isn’t long. According to Statista, the life of a running back is 2.57 years. For example, Bell had three seasons over 1,000 yards in the five years with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Mike Tomlin will want to squeeze as much juice out of the Najee Harris lemon that he can. And when Tomlin retires, Harris will seemingly be a shadow of what he once was.

Steelers HC Mike Tomlin: ‘It’s about sharpening our sword for the battle that lies ahead’

Even subpar talent is going to produce their very best versus the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In the fifth divisional game of the season, the Steelers look to secure the AFC North title with a win in Cincinnati.

“We’re back in the AFC North, divisional play. If you want to dominate the NFL and be one of the teams in contention to dominate the NFL, it starts first and foremost with divisional play,” Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said in his weekly press conference.

“It’s about sharpening our sword for the battle that lies ahead. We expect to get the very best from Cincinnati.”

While the Steelers didn’t get the very best from the Bengals in Week 10, the Steelers are a far different team than five weeks ago. And as we’ve seen from teams like the Dallas Cowboys in Week 9 and the Baltimore Ravens practice squad in Week 12, even subpar talent will produce their very best versus the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Pittsburgh Steelers got some rough news today when it was announced multiple players including quarterback Ben Roethlisberger were placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. But if you have about 22 minutes of free time, this video will guarantee to improve your mood.

NFL Films put out this great highlight reel of Steelers HC Mike Tomlin mic’d up and it is all you need to get Steelers fans through a tough week. We particularly like the montage of Tomlin hip thrusts as Roethlisberger gets sacked and when he screams “let’s go #92, my kids wanna have a good Christmas!” to linebacker James Harrison.

Mike Tomlin says ‘We do not care’ about the potential of 13 straight games

Tomlin appears to be calm, cool and collected about the chaotic situation the Titans have put the league in.

After 14 seasons, we’re all familiar with that dead serious look that Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin gets. Thursday was one of those times.

When asked about the chance of the Steelers needing to play 13 straight weeks if they lose their initially scheduled bye week, Tomlin said to the media, “We do not care.”

Meanwhile, the players are off for the remainder of the week and will return to work on Tuesday after Monday’s scheduled “bonus day.” The team will need to stay local to report for daily COVID testing.

Per Teresa Varley of Steelers.com, Tomlin “wishes not to speculate” on the timing of when the NFL will make its decision about rescheduling the Titans game.

Tomlin believes, no matter the outcome, that the league is doing the right thing. “We take marching orders from the National Football League. We understand they’re acting our collective best interest.”
