Keyontae Johnson transferred to UF Health, responding to commands

University of Florida Gators men’s basketball forward Keyontae Johnson remains listed as critical but stable as he’s transferred back to UF.

Florida Gators men’s basketball star forward Keyontae Johnson was successfully transported from Tallahassee Memorial Hospital to the university’s health care system in Gainesville on Monday afternoon, according to the school’s announcement on Twitter.

The Southeastern Conference’s Preseason Player of the Year was taken off the court on a stretcher Saturday as the Gators were coming out of a timeout in the first half in their game against the Florida State Seminoles. He was transported to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital where he was initially reported in critical but stable condition.

Keyontae Johnson has been successfully transferred from Tallahassee Memorial to UF Health in Gainesville by ShandsCair.

He continues in critical but stable condition, is following simple commands and undergoing further tests.

Despite the objections of many, the team decided in the locker room during half time that they would complete the game, and the team ultimately lost their seventh-straight to FSU, 83-71.

It is currently unclear whether or not Johnson’s condition is related to COVID-19, or if he had even previously tested positive for the virus. The Gators paused team activities last month due to positive COVID-19 tests and head coach Mike White said the team also had previous issues, but details were not released because of privacy laws.
