About Larry Foyt:

When asked what the best advice his legendary father ever gave him was, it should come as no surprise that the Texan’s greatest impression on his son Larry was made through his actions and attitude, not his words. “With A.J. it wasn’t so much verbal advice, but I’ve always admired his determination. I think that’s one of the things that made him so successful.”

Larry Foyt, president of A.J. Foyt Enterprises and son of the company’s namesake, is also determined.

“A.J. loves to win, and that’s what we’re trying to get back to. It’s hard, trust me, it’s not a lack of effort. We’re up against some very good teams, and it’s a very tough business, but we’re determined to turn this thing around and get back in victory lane.”

He is a veteran of the paddock who has experienced the highs and lows of racing throughout his career, both on and off the track. Foyt’s tenure with his father’s IndyCar team began in earnest in 2007. In 2013, the team returned to Victory Circle in the Long Beach Grand Prix, the IndyCar Series’ most historic and prestigious street course event. Winning driver Takuma Sato also claimed three pole positions (fastest qualifier) in his four-year stint with the Foyt team.

Along with A.J. Foyt IV, Foyt co-founded Foyt Family Wines in 2008. He continues to build the award-winning boutique wine company that sources its product from Napa Valley and Sonoma County in California.

Foyt’s growth of A.J. Foyt Enterprises included purchasing and overseeing the renovation of a multi-purpose facility in Speedway, Ind., in 2014. The No. 41 team is run out of this location. The No. 14 team still operates out of the Houston suburb of Waller.

In 2015, Foyt and Foyt IV opened the Foyt Wine Vault, a Foyt Family Wines tasting room and retail center located next to the race shop. The Vault has become very popular within the local Speedway community, as well as with tourists visiting Indianapolis.

In 2021, Foyt and a team of investors opened the stunning Foyt Winery and Museum in Fredericksburg, Texas which is the ‘Napa Valley’ of Texas. The project was on Foyt’s radar for several years before construction began in 2019. The multi-phase project recently completed a museum which displays race cars and artifacts from the Foyt family. Well-appointed cabins to host overnight guests are in the project’s future plans.

The Houstonian began his professional career as a race car driver. He competed in three Indianapolis 500s (2004-2006). Prior to his IndyCar experience, Foyt spent four years competing in NASCAR: he raced in the Winston (now Monster Energy) Cup Series in 2003-2004 and in the Busch Grand national (now Xfinity) Series in 2001-2002. Foyt was a brand ambassador for Harrah’s Casinos and a national spokesman for the Meals on Wheels program for four years (2000-2003). After starting in karts and progressing to Formula 2000, Foyt jumped to stock cars in 2000 and spent a season in the American Speed Association (ASA).

Foyt’s experience as a driver served him well as he gradually ascended to his role as president of the race team. Foyt’s determination to get the team back to victory lane is nearly as strong as his determination to make his father proud. It’s only a matter of time when he’ll succeed in doing just that.

Alan Gow to be a featured speaker at the 5th Annual Race Industry Week

About Alan Gow:

Alan Gow is the chief executive of the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) and president of the FIA Touring Car Commission. He was born in Melbourne, Australia, and lives in Surrey, England.

A lifelong entrant and competitor in Australian motorsport, Gow had business interests in Melbourne based car dealerships and commercial property developments. From there, he became involved in the Holden Dealer Team owned by Peter Brock and would become a partner/managing director/team principal, whilst also helping to found TEGA – the Australian Touring Car Entrants Group – which for several years was the administrator of, and owned the rights to, the then-V8 Supercar Championship.

He emigrated to England at the end of 1990 and formed TOCA that purchased the rights to the BTCC in 1991 and proceeded to turn the championship into the largest of its type in the world, and one of the most widely watched motorsport series around the globe.

Gow was also a partner in TOCA Australia – which ran the now-defunct Australian Super Touring Championship during the 1990s – as well as in the North American Touring Car Championship, which ran for two years. Both series used regulations similar to those found in the BTCC during the same period.

In 2000, TOCA was sold to the American company Octagon Motorsport (part of the Nasdaq listed Interpublic group) and Gow took a “sabbatical” from managing the BTCC. He retained and licensed the use of the TOCA name for interactive video gaming, and the TOCA Touring Car series became one of the biggest-selling, and most popular, games of its type in the world.

In 2003 Octagon relinquished their ownership of TOCA and the BTCC. A new company (BARC TOCA Ltd) was formed to take over management of the championship and Gow was appointed as chief executive; returning to take charge and rebuild the championship after it had floundered under the previous management.

The series soon saw an upturn in fortunes, with the following season being one Gow felt was the ‘best for many years and has gone from strength to strength ever since.

Under Gow’s continued leadership, the BTCC has established itself as largest and highest-profile motor-racing championship in the UK, attracting large spectator numbers and huge television audiences; the latter thanks to a long-standing partnership with ITV that means the series remains on free-to-air TV at a time when many other forms of motorsport are now on subscription channels. It has re-established its status as one of the most popular and highly regarded motorsport championships within the world as a result.

Gow has held a number of other positions alongside his role at the head of the BTCC, both within the UK and overseas. In 2006, he was appointed as the chairman of the board of the governing body of UK motorsport, the MSA (now known as Motorsport UK) – a position he would hold for three terms before retiring from the role at the end of 2017. Gow was also chairman of International Motorsports Ltd – organizers of the British Grand Prix and Wales Rally GB during the same period, and was a board director of the Royal Automobile Club from 2010 through to 2016.

As well as his role with the FIA’s Touring Car Commission, which overseas FIA-sanctioned competition at both regional and international level across the globe, Gow has been a board director and trustee of the FIA Foundation since 2012, with the foundation working on many innovative and substantial injury prevention programs and pilot projects throughout the world.

In 2016, at the House of Lords, Gow received the prestigious Motorsport Industry Association ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Motorsport Industry’ award in recognition of the work carried out during his career.

Despite his move to the UK, Gow was the long-time manager of Australian racing driver James Courtney – with the relationship between the pair going back to the late 1990s when Courtney was racing in the British Formula Ford Championship.

Gow holds an FIA race license and has contested various races through the years, racing everything from BMWs and Mini Coopers to Citroen 2CVs and C1s – the latter in an outing alongside multiple World Touring Car Championship-winning driver Andy Priaulx in a 24-hour race at Rockingham in 2018. Gow also had the chance to get behind the wheel of a BTCC car himself in 2018 when he drove an Alfa Romeo at Snetterton as part of a magazine feature.

Gow has held a pilot’s license since 1979 and also competed in competition water-skiing at International level during the late 1970s and early 1980s.

About Jay Frye:

Jay Frye’s tenure as president of IndyCar has coincided with many impactful initiatives in essential facets for the sanctioning body of North America’s premier open-wheel series.

Named president in December 2018 after spending the previous three years as IndyCar’s president of competition and operations, Frye has made significant contributions for the commercial and competition sides of the business.

NTT, a Fortune Global 500 global informational technology and communications leader, opened the 2019 season as the new series title sponsor. Frye initiated and consummated this multiyear deal that was pivotal to the future growth of the series.

2024 featured the successful implementation of the IndyCar hybrid power unit. Highlighted by a first-of-its-kind collaboration with Chevrolet and Honda, the hybrid engine package produced over 800 horsepower and completed a remarkable 94,244 miles after full-field introduction. The record-breaking 2024 season also produced 14 on- track passing records and the fastest pole speed in the 108-year history of the Indianapolis 500. As an indicator of overall series health, 2024 featured 27 full-time starters – matching the record set in 2023.

In May 2019, Frye spearheaded a partnership with Red Bull Advanced Technologies to design the aeroscreen, an industry-changing, total driver cockpit safety solution, which debuted in the 2020 NTT IndyCar Series season. The innovative addition to the open-wheel cars proved extremely effective in competition when put to the test.

In 2016, Frye introduced an effective, rolling five-year plan that serves as a strategic blueprint and assists in cost containment for the teams moving into the future. The impetus for the plan was built around the introduction and successful implementation of the AK-18 universal aero kits in 2018.

In October 2020, the NTT IndyCar Series engine manufacturers, Chevrolet and Honda, extended their long-term agreements with the series.

That initial five-year plan has extended through the 2026-28 seasons of the NTT IndyCar Series, where Frye has set up the series to continue to succeed strategically and competitively.

Frye joined the company in 2013 as chief revenue officer of Hulman Motorsports and led the combined team of IndyCar and Indianapolis Motor Speedway sponsorship sales, licensing and account services.

Prior to joining Hulman & Co., Frye flourished in team management roles in the NASCAR industry. He was vice president and general manager for Red Bull Racing’s NASCAR team (2008-11) and was named 2008 NASCAR Executive of the Year by ESPN and the Kansas City Star. From 1996-2007, Frye was chief executive officer and general manager of MB2 Motorsports, a team he created and built.

Before his executive roles with NASCAR teams, Frye worked at Valvoline Racing, and his extensive sales and marketing experience began with a variety of roles at Anheuser-Busch Inc.

Frye, a native of Rock Island, Illinois, graduated with a marketing/education degree from the University of Missouri, where he played tight end and offensive tackle for four years on the Tigers’ football team. He and his wife, Danielle, have two daughters.

In September 2018, Steve Phelps was appointed President of NASCAR, only the fifth individual to hold this position since the organization’s founding. Based in Daytona Beach, Fla., Phelps oversees all operations, competition and commercial, for the sanctioning body, including the management of 15 racetrack facilities and the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) sports car series.

Under Phelps’ leadership, NASCAR has transformed its business and strengthened the sport’s position for long-term growth and success, with a focus on delivering the best motorsports racing in the world, providing outstanding entertainment experiences, and building a globally diverse community of loyal fans.

In 2019, Phelps led NASCAR through the sanctioning body’s landmark merger with International Speedway Corporation (ISC), integrating its operations into one, new, unified company with racetracks across the country. The historic merger helped create an aligned vision for the sport while positioning a now stronger NASCAR for new growth opportunities.

The following year, Phelps guided NASCAR through an unprecedented and challenging season as the industry paved the way for live sports to return in America. NASCAR swiftly implemented COVID-19 safety protocols to become the first sport to return to competition, first to safely welcome back fans and first to complete a full season schedule. All the while, NASCAR stabilized TV ratings at a time when nearly all sports were significantly down.

In June 2020, NASCAR emerged as a leading voice in the national conversation on racial equality and social justice with Phelps rallying the NASCAR industry to reaffirm its commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. After leading an emotional moment of listening preceding the race in Atlanta, he led the decision to ban the confederate flag and introduced sweeping DE&I enhancements across the sport – critical efforts that led to a surge of new fans, partners and diverse race team ownership.

With Phelps at the helm, the sanctioning body refocused its priorities to ensure that a best-in-class racing experience is delivered to NASCAR fans on a weekly basis at track, at home or on the go. Through increased collaboration and consensus-building with drivers, race teams, tracks and stakeholders, NASCAR unveiled the sport’s most dynamic new race schedule 50 years with its exciting 2021 schedules featuring several new venues, markets and track layouts.

In May 2021, NASCAR introduced the Next Gen race car to the global motorsports community – the most technologically advanced car in NASCAR history and a testament to the sport’s ongoing commitment to innovation. The arrival of the Next Gen car marks years of strategic planning and coordinated development, representing the new era of industry collaboration that Phelps is driving across the sport.

Phelps joined NASCAR as Vice President of Corporate Marketing in 2005. Beginning the following year, he spent 12 years as Chief Marketing Officer and oversaw all marketing functions for the sanctioning body. He was promoted to Chief Operating Officer in April 2018 before transitioning to his current role as President.

During his time at NASCAR, Phelps has won Adweek’s prestigious Sports Marketing Executive of the Year and was named its Brand Genius Award winner in the “sports” category. In recognition of his leadership elevating the sport through the challenges of 2020, Phelps was named a finalist for Sports Business Journal’s Executive of the Year, with NASCAR likewise named a League of the Year finalist.

Prior to joining NASCAR, Phelps was Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Wasserman Media Group. In 1990, Phelps began a 14-year tenure at the National Football League where he served as Vice President, Corporate Marketing.

A native of Vermont, Phelps resides in Daytona Beach, Florida and has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Vermont and an MBA from Boston College.
