Billy Donovan refuses to make excuses for Bulls struggles: ‘You are what your record says you are’

Head coach Billy Donovan refuses to make any struggles for the Chicago Bulls’ struggles this season.

In 2021, the Chicago Bulls completely changed course. They swiftly exited their rebuild, trading for Nikola Vucevic at the deadline and signing DeMar DeRozan, Lonzo Ball, and Alex Caruso the following offseason. Since then, however, the Bulls have won just a single playoff game, and Ball hasn’t played since his opening 35 games with the team.

This year, things haven’t gone much better. The Bulls are 5-13 at the time of writing this, ready to take on the Boston Celtics – the owners of the NBA’s best record. Ahead of the In-Season Tournament affair against Boston, Bulls head coach Billy Donovan spoke at length about Chicago’s struggles.

He stressed that there should be no excuses made for how poorly they’ve performed this season.

Billy Donovan accepts blame for Bulls’ struggles this season: ‘I take ownership in this, too’

Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan spoke about the blame that he takes in the team’s struggles this season.

The Chicago Bulls have been one of the most disappointing teams in the NBA this year. They’ve lost seven of their last eight games, including four in a row by nine or more points. Their most recent loss saw them blow an early 21-point lead to the Brooklyn Nets, in which they gave up 25 three-pointers (the most in Bulls history).

Arturas Karnisovas has spoken up about his disappointment in the team’s performance, the players have expressed their frustration with the results, and head coach Billy Donovan hasn’t been pleased, either. Ahead of the Bulls’ In-Season Tournament game against the Boston Celtics on Wednesday night, Donovan spoke about it.

Donovan said that he takes just as much responsibility for the Bulls’ lack of success as everyone else.

Zach LaVine voices frustration after Bulls’ historic loss to Nets: ‘It doesn’t feel good’

After the Chicago Bulls’ historic loss to the Brooklyn Nets, Zach LaVine expressed his frustration with the Bulls’ season so far.

Heading into their Sunday night contest against the Brooklyn Nets, the Chicago Bulls were reeling. They had lost three games in a row by 18 points, 14 points, and 13 points, respectively. Chicago needed a win in the worst way, and their game against Brooklyn started off promising with a 30-9 run. Then, the worst possible outcome occurred.

The Bulls blew the lead in dramatic fashion, eventually losing the game 118-109. In the process, they allowed 25 Nets three-pointers – the most-ever made in a game against the Bulls. So, technically, Chicago made history. It’s just not the type of history they were hoping to make when the season got underway.

With the loss, the Bulls moved to 5-13 on the season, and after the game, Chicago star Zach LaVine expressed his frustration. (H/t Julia Poe of the Chicago Tribune)

Nikola Vucevic discusses Bulls’ poor defense in ugly loss to Nets: ‘We don’t do a good enough job communicating’

After the Chicago Bulls’ brutal loss to the Brooklyn Nets, Nikola Vucevic spoke about their failures on the defensive end.

The Chicago Bulls got off to a roaring start on Sunday night. They jumped out to a 30-9 lead over the Brooklyn Nets by the 4:37 mark in the first quarter. Patrick Williams had a hot start, Coby White was cooking, and the Nets couldn’t get anything to fall. Everything was going well… until it wasn’t.

From that point on, the Bulls were outscored 79-109 by Brooklyn, leading to a 109-118 loss. The Nets nailed 25 triples – the most any team has ever made against the Bulls – leading to their monumental comeback. Spencer Dinwiddie, Royce O’Neale, and Lonnie Walker IV all had 20 or more points, and the latter two each hit six threes on the night.

After the game, Bulls big man Nikola Vucevic spoke about the Bulls’ poor defensive effort against Brooklyn.

DeMar DeRozan expresses frustration with Bulls’ losing ways after loss to Raptors

After the Chicago Bulls loss to the Toronto Raptors, DeMar DeRozan expressed his frustration with the team’s losing ways.

It’s been an ugly season for the Chicago Bulls so far. Nothing has been going right. On Friday night, they took on the Toronto Raptors in their third of four In-Season Tournament games. Unfortunately, they lost 121-108, which moved them to 0-3 in the In-Season Tournament, mathematically eliminating them from the tournament.

And to make matters worse, they got taken down in an absolute blowout at the hands of the Raptors. Toronto was up by as many as 20 points, and the Bulls’ last lead of the game was in the first few minutes. It was a near-wire-to-wire win for the Raptors, and the Bulls moved to 5-12 on the year.

After the game, Bulls star DeMar DeRozan expressed his frustration with Chicago’s losing ways as of late.
