Bill Belichick takes hilarious jab at ‘The Dynasty’ Patriots docuseries

Bill Belichick believes there’s only one Patriots documentary

While commenting on New England Patriots documentaries over the years, former Patriots coach Bill Belichick took a sideswipe at “The Dynasty: New England Patriots” docuseries.

It was a controversial documentary that came under heavy criticism for its portrayal of the legendary coach. Even former Patriots players, including former NFL Defensive Player of the Year Stephon Gilmore, voiced their issues with the depiction of Belichick in the documentary.

Belichick appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show” earlier in the week and spoke about the Patriots’ documentaries. Pat McAfee referenced the “Do Your Job” documentary and then started naming off other documentaries that Belichick quickly shot down.

“There’s only one. The other documentary, as you remember, is the roast. I wouldn’t count that one,” said Belichick.

It’s no secret that “The Dynasty” docuseries ruffled feathers. It also appears there is no love lost with Belichick when it comes to the series.

The future Hall of Fame coach has bigger things to tend to now, as he gets set to rebuild the North Carolina Tar Heels as the team’s new head coach.

Bill Belichick not a fan of resting starters in the season finale

Bill Belichick explains why he’s not a fan of resting starters in the season finale

Former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick doesn’t subscribe to the idea of resting starters at the end of the season. He made that clear during an appearance on the “Let’s Go!” podcast.

Team mentality and perception were two of the reasons why Belichick didn’t like resting starters. It was all about treating players equally across the board. No one player is more important than another in Belichick’s mind.

His way of doing things helped foster a great team culture and led to success for nearly 20 years with the New England Patriots.

“I mean, you can only have seven inactive guys,” Belichick said, as transcribed by Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio. “Who are they? And it’s tough to go to your team and say, ‘Well, we’re not gonna play you guys over here, but the rest of you get out there. We don’t really care about you. If you get hurt, that doesn’t matter, but these six or seven guys we’re going to protect.’

“You can’t say that to the team. That doesn’t resonate well at all, nor should it. So I always had a hard time with that one. Now, if a guy was fighting an injury and everybody understood that the guy was fighting an injury, OK, that’s one thing. But to just say, ‘Well, you guys are important, but you other guys aren’t, we don’t care what happens to you. Get out there and play.’ That’s not a message I could ever send to the team. Even though there were people in the organization that wanted me to send that, I just couldn’t do it.”

Teams across the league are pondering whether to play their starters or rest them in the season finale. The Patriots are expected to play their starters, including rookie quarterback Drake Maye, if they’re healthy enough to be on the field.

Bill Belichick recalls favorite Tom Brady play of all time

Bill Belichick recalled his favorite Tom Brady play with the Patriots

Former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick has seen a lot of good football over the years. In particular, his former quarterback, Tom Brady, has provided him with an endless number of great moments.

Belichick was asked about his favorite Brady play during an episode of the “Let’s Go!” podcast with Jim Gray.

His favorite play occurred in Super Bowl XXXIX when the Patriots played against the Philadelphia Eagles in 2005.

The play included former Patriots receiver David Givens, who was supposed to act as the decoy. However, Brady ended up working his way through all of his progressions back to Givens, who snagged a catch for a touchdown.

“You know, Tom, you made a lot of great plays, but I’ll put that one up there maybe after your scramble against [Brian] Urlacher,” said Belichick.

It’s interesting Belichick chose that play out of all of the great plays Brady has made throughout his career. Regardless, having a legendary coach like Belichick remember a play so vividly is an accolade on its own.

Deion Sanders explains why Bill Belichick joining UNC is game-changing

Deion Sanders had high praise for UNC coach Bill Belichick

Former coaches and players have been reacting to Bill Belichick becoming the new head coach for the North Carolina Tar Heels, and Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders was no exception.

Sanders is currently in the middle of rebuilding the Buffaloes program. They finished with a 9-3 record in 2024 after going 4-8 in 2023.

Sanders seemingly transformed the program overnight by taking the Buffaloes from being a bottom-dwelling Big 12 team to a competitive media sensation.

He offered his opinion on Belichick joining the college football ranks in a social media post.

“Coach Bill Belichick is a coaches Coach to All us Coaches along with my man Coach Saban!” Sanders wrote. “They’re game changers and they know how to move people forward. I know this is a great thing for College Football & for North Carolina. God bless u Coach, if you’re happy I am 2!”

It will be interesting to see how Belichick adapts to the college game after taking a year off from coaching. North Carolina should have an easier time recruiting with an all-time great coach looking to bring the program back to the top of the ACC.

Jerod Mayo shares thoughts on Bill Belichick-UNC coaching reports

Jerod Mayo shares his thoughts on Bill Belichick possibly coaching in college football

New England Patriots coach Jerod Mayo believes that his former boss, Bill Belichick, would have success if he’s hired for the head coaching job at North Carolina.

Belichick has been in talks with the university as a candidate to fill in the coaching vacancy left in the wake of the firing of Mack Brown. Mayo has served under the legendary coach as both a player and an assistant coach.

So he has a deep understanding of how Belichick operates. He believes that ability would translate well to the collegiate level.

“He’s a great coach,” Mayo said on Belichick, as transcribed by WEEI’s Scott McLaughlin. “And to me, it doesn’t matter if you’re a young man or a 10-year vet in the league, he’s a great teacher. I wish him nothing but the best. It doesn’t really matter what level, I think he’ll be successful.”

Seeing Belichick standing on the sidelines coaching college football would be quite the visual. Regardless, one would have to think that UNC recruiting would take a positive jump with one of the greatest coaches in NFL history leading the way.

Bill Belichick breaks silence on North Carolina head coaching reports

Bill Belichick addressed the North Carolina head coaching reports

Former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick addressed the rumors that he had interviewed for the head coaching job at North Carolina for the first time on “The Pat McAfee Show” Monday.

Belichick didn’t give away key details of his interactions with North Carolina, but he did confirm conversations with the college program. He also made sure to highlight the word “if” when discussing the possibility of him joining the program.

“I did grow up that way,” said Belichick. “I mean, my dad was a college coach at North Carolina for three years, Vanderbilt for a year and then Navy for 50. It seems like college football is more like pro football. I’ve talked to a lot of college coaches about things like the salary cap and putting value on players and negotiating, kind of mixing all of that together.

“…I’ve had a chance this year to take a longer look at college football during the college season, as opposed to in the spring from the draft perspective, and it’s been interesting, as well as staying up with pro football. It’s been a good year for me. I’ve learned a lot. I’ve had an opportunity to talk to [UNC] Chancellor (Lee) Roberts. We’ve had a couple of good conversations. So we’ll see how it goes.”

Many have pondered the seriousness of the discussions given the expectations that Belichick would return to coaching at the NFL level.

One would also have to consider the financial aspects of a move of this magnitude on North Carolina’s side. There are so many moving parts right now, but given Belichick’s comments, it seems like both sides are at least considering the possibility.

Report: Bill Belichick interviewed for job at major college program

Bill Belichick was reportedly interviewed for the head coaching job at North Carolina

Former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick has reportedly interviewed for the head coaching vacancy at the University of North Carolina.

Per Inside Carolina’s Grant Hughes, Belichick was among a group of candidates interviewed for the vacancy since the firing of Mack Brown on November 26.

Some of the other candidates included in the mix were Georgia defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann and Tulane coach Jon Sumrall.

Belichick parted ways with the Patriots back in January, and Patriots former inside linebackers coach Jerod Mayo was hired as his replacement. The legendary coach failed to land a head coaching job in the NFL’s 2024 cycle.

There was always the belief that he’d return to coaching. Most figured it would be in the NFL considering he’s only 15 wins shy of breaking Don Schula’s all-time wins record.

College football would be a different trajectory altogether for the 72-year-old coach. It’s hard to imagine that the services of a six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach wouldn’t be desired everywhere.

Could Bill Belichick be eyeing a coaching job with this AFC team?

Is Bill Belichick eyeing another AFC team?

Former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is still believed to have an interest in coaching in 2025. According to NFL insider Dianna Russini, one team that could particularly be of interest to the legendary coach is the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Belichick hasn’t coached since splitting with the Patriots back in January. He was passed over in the initial wave of head coaching hirings. Since then, he has kept busy, appearing on multiple television programs and speaking at clinics.

“Belichick certainly has his eye on this Jacksonville opening,” Russini said on “Scoop City” podcast. “This is an organization that has tons of respect for Belichick. They’ve got a good relationship already. … When you think about what they’re looking for and need there, it starts to make sense. This is a team that’s looking for structure. They’re looking for good situational football. They’re looking for a coach that can maximize talent, specifically on defense. They’ve got solid-to-good guys on their defense.

“The things they’re looking for make sense. But the question that I’m gonna have about how the Belichick situation is gonna work is what is going to be the power dynamic? Is he gonna get the keys to the castle? If they’re gonna give him unilateral control, like allow him to do that, why wouldn’t he go there?”

Of course, this would all hinge on Doug Pederson being fired and the team offering Belichick the job.

It’s a hypothetical situation with many interesting storylines. For one, Mac Jones is currently the backup quarterback for the Jaguars. Belichick spent a first-round draft pick in 2021 on Jones, in an attempted Patriots rebuild that failed to work.

But would Belichick actually agree to not having total control of the team in terms of personnel? It would be one of the biggest stories in 2025 if things unfolded that way.

Bill Belichick has interesting take on Patriots’ victory over Bears

Bill Belichick shared his thoughts on the Patriots’ Week 10 victory

Former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick was hesitant to give the organization credit following their 19-3 win over the Chicago Bears on Sunday.

He did give some credit to rookie quarterback Drake Maye, but when it came to the Patriots beating the Bears, he credited the Bears’ own inefficiencies as a big reason for the Patriots’ win.

“Well, I think [Maye’s] done a good job when he’s been able to scramble and run around,” Belichick said on “The Pat McAfee Show.” “Made some plays on play-action where they can separate the defense because the running game, when [Rhamondre] Stevenson can get it going, draw some of the coverages and the linebackers up and so forth.

“But to me, the bigger thing is just where the Bears are. They can’t protect. They can’t move the ball. They can’t score any points.”

New England picked up their third win of the season on the back of their defense. The unit recorded nine sacks in total and 13 quarterback hits. It was a tough, gritty victory for a team that has won two out of their last three games.

Belichick has certainly been slow to give the Patriots credit throughout their victories. One has to wonder if he still holds a grudge over how things went down at the end of his tenure with the team.

3 players with Patriots ties make Bill Belichick’s Midseason All-Star Team

The Patriots are well-represented on Bill Belichick’s Midseason All-Star Team

Former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick named three of his former NFL draft picks to his Midseason All-Star Team.

Defensive end Keion White, cornerback Christian Gonzalez, and former Patriots kicker Chad Ryland, who is now with the Arizona Cardinals, were all named to the team.

White has recorded four sacks and 38 combined tackles on the season, while Gonzalez has established himself as one of the best corners in all of football. The former University of Oregon standout is having another solid year, tallying 40 combined tackles and an interception in nine games played.

Meanwhile, Ryland has made a major impact on the Cardinals. The 2023 fourth-round draft pick has made 10-of-11 field goals and all nine of his extra points. He was most recently named the Special Teams Player of the Month for October.

White and Gonzalez are becoming defensive cornerstones for the organization, and Ryland is finding tremendous success after a change of scenery.

It just goes to show Belichick’s imprint on the game is still very much alive, even when he’s away from coaching.
