WATCH: Darius Slayton brings in nice TD catch

Slayton has quickly become the go-to target for the Giants.

In just his second season in the NFL, Darius Slayton has quickly become the top target for the New York Giants in the passing game.

It was no different on Sunday as Daniel Jones found the former Auburn receiver in stride for a 23-yard touchdown.

It is Slayton’s third touchdown catch of the season.

Report: Cam Newton expected to return to practice in Week 6

Newton is expected to return to practice and be available for the New England Patriots game this Sunday.

New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton is expected to return to practice in Week 6 after testing positive for COVID-19 earlier this month, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.

It’s a terrific sign for Newton after contracting the disease. Newton’s return would also mark a season-changing moment for the Patriots, as they struggled enormously on offense without him in Week 4.

Newton had been asymptomatic for the entirety of his time with COVID-19, so he was eligible to return after 10 days from his first positive test. That would have marked a return last weekend. Instead, the Patriots will put Newton on the practice field for their first workout of Week 6 on Thursday.

They will play the Denver Broncos on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Gillette Stadium.

The game had initially been scheduled for last Sunday, but the NFL postponed the game twice after New England’s COVID-19 outbreak resulted in four players landing on the reserve COVID list. That game was unlikely to feature Newton or Broncos quarterback Drew Lock.

But with both players returning to the field for their first practice session of the week, it seems likely they will both play on Sunday.

Here’s Cam Newton reflecting in July about his COVID-19 anxieties

The Auburn legend and current Patriots quarterback was worried about COVID-19 back in July.

Cam Newton has been mum about COVID-19 since testing positive for the novel coronavirus on Friday. He has posted two brief messages on social media, but that hardly covers the complicated situation he’s surely managing, even if he’s still asymptomatic.

In a video called “The Bigger Picture” on YouTube that has resurfaced from July, Newton discussed the spread of the disease.

“We want to live this normal life again, but it’s invisible. You don’t know if it’s here. You don’t know if I’ve got it. You don’t know if you’ve got it. You don’t know if the cameraman got it. And I think that’s the scariest thing. And for us, our sport — you pass DNA off. … Our sport dabbles in more DNA spread than probably — I think another sport would probably be boxing and UFC.”

By “DNA,” Newton probably means bacteria, which — as we’ve been seeing with an outbreak in the Tennessee Titans facility — can indeed flow freely within a football team.

This video felt like interesting context while Newton continues to deal with COVID-19.

LOOK: Cam Newton posts message urging people to wear masks

The current New England Patriots quarterback and Auburn legend tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday.

Cam Newton had to sit out of New England’s matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night after testing positive for COVID-19 on Saturday. On Tuesday, it was reported that he is asymptomatic and may have a chance to return this Sunday.

The Auburn legend and current Patriots quarterback is taking his positive test seriously and is now encouraging everyone to wear masks.

Cam has spoken!

Report: Patriots QB Cam Newton is asymptomatic for COVID-19

The burning question for New England Patriots fans is whether or not Cam Newton will be ready for Week 5 against the Denver Broncos.

Newton was the only Patriot to contract the coronavirus in Week 4 and he was originally reported to be asymptomatic. According to ESPN’s Mike Reiss, that’s still the case as of Monday morning.

First and foremost, Newton’s health and the health of those around him is the most important factor in this. Making sure he’s isolated from anyone who could contract the virus, while making sure he’s taking care of himself is top priority.

Reiss explained the protocol for him to get back on the field.

That means Newton could be cleared to return in five days since his first positive test if he continues not to exhibit any symptoms, has two negative tests 24 hours apart within those five days, and is cleared by the team doctor.

With this being the case, it’s possible that Newton could return to practice as soon as Thursday. New England plays Denver on Thursday and his presence would be ideal for the team.

Time will tell if he’ll suit up, but Jarrett Stidham will likely take over the starting role if Newton isn’t good to go.

With Brian Hoyer, who was replacing Cam Newton, struggling against the Kansas City Chiefs, Stidham was put into the game and immediately led the Patriots down the field, ending with his first NFL touchdown pass.

The New England Patriots will have to play the best team in the NFL, the Kansas City Chiefs, without their starting quarterback Cam Newton on Sunday.

The former Auburn star has tested positive for COVID-19.

“Late last night, we received notice that a Patriots players tested positive for COVID-19. The player immediately entered self-quarantine,” the Patriots said in a statement Saturday. “Several additional players, coaches and staff who have been in close contact with the player received point of care tests this morning and all were negative for COVID-19.”

Cam Newton hasn’t moved family to Boston during this ‘business trip’ with Patriots

Cam Newton signed a one-year deal with the New England Patriots, making his time with the team temporary.

Unless he signs an extension to stay longer in New England, there’s no need to move his family and uproot their life. This is a logical scenario and Newton said that he’s currently on a ‘business trip’ with the Patriots while joining WEEI’s ‘The Greg Hill Show.’

“I am a person who takes everything to heart, I mean anything,” Newton said. “The whole decision, and not to keep beating a dead horse, this is a business trip for me. The fact that I don’t have none of my children here in Boston with me and the fact that I haven’t been able to see them on a regularity, that’s angry in itself for me. I wake up every morning missing the hell out of my children, and knowing that if I don’t do what I am supposed to do, then this could be good riddance for me. That is as serious as I am making it and that’s as serious it is.

“Not to mention, I have so much to prove. I could care less about other critics, but more or less I have so much to prove to myself. I have seen a lot of great football being played. I have seen a lot of great football being played over the time I was injured and whatnot. You have to question yourself and question the man that you are and say, ‘Can you still play at a high level?’ There’s an expectation that I have for myself and I am just trying to meet it every single day of my life.”

Newton didn’t dive into the circumstances necessary to keep him in Foxborough.

“It’s always about taking care of business,” he said. “My focus is so near-sighted that I am trying to make things work, and if I am looking for long-term results with not too many things to have leverage on, then that’s not good. For me, I just look at the opportunity that I have been given, and it is a great opportunity, I’ll tell you that, and I think people already know that. It’s up to me about how I finish what I started. It’s not necessarily about the things that people want to make it about, it’s about going out and and every week and first off winning, and then everything else falls in place.”

Although many people would like to see Newton with a long-term deal, he should be appreciated for the excitement he’s providing this season.
