Veteran RB John Kelly to join Ravens practice squad

Baltimore Ravens sign John Kelly to the practice squad

The Baltimore Ravens added another running back to the practice squad, signing former Browns ball carrier John Kelly ahead of Wednesday’s practice.

Kelly was with Cleveland for four seasons, spending time on the active roster and practice squad. Kelly appeared in five games and had two carries for 13 yards.

The 2018 sixth-round pick joins the Ravens and brings special teams experience to a roster that includes Derrick Henry, Justice Hill, Keaton Mitchell (PUP list), Owen Wright, Rasheen Ali (Rookie), and Chris Collier (Rookie.).

Should the Ravens sign free agent WR Donovan Peoples-Jones?

Donovan Peoples-Jones played for the Cleveland Browns for three-and-a-half seasons, putting in a very productive and efficient 2022

In the words of Missy Elliott, “This is for my people, my party people.” With the Detroit Lions cutting wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones, many people who support teams that are lacking in the wide receiver room are now calling for their teams to consider signing DPJ.

Peoples-Jones played for the Browns for three-and-a-half seasons, and in 2022, he was very productive and efficient. He started 14 games and caught 61 balls for 839 yards and three touchdowns.

He had career lows across the board last season, so it’s easy to see why the Lions feel they are fine without him. While his time with his hometown team is now over, he still has the potential to regain the form that he had a couple of years ago, provided he finds the right fit.

The Ravens signed Anthony Miller and Russell Gage this summer, presumably under the guise that either one or both could reasonably compete for a roster spot.

Both were gone before the final cuts were made. Speaking of final cuts, fan-favorite Dayton Wade was let go, and it all goes to show you that the Ravens still haven’t found what they’re looking for in the position.

Maybe Peoples-Jones brings something that Wade, Gage, and Miller didn’t?

John Harbaugh has also had ample time to scout him, as they play the Browns twice a season, every season. And if he wants a character reference on him, all he has to do is text his brother.

Peoples-Jones is “a Michigan Man,” just like his college coach Jim Harbaugh. One has to assume that anytime a former Michigan Wolverine is on the Raven’s radar, he gets vetted by the coach, who is synonymous with wearing khakis.

It’s undoubtedly an excellent competitive advantage to have.

Ravens to host veteran defensive end Lawrence Guy on a free agent visit

Baltimore Ravens to host Lawrence Guy on a free agent visit

The Ravens revealed their initial 53-man roster for 2024, but the club is continually working to find depth. On Wednesday, they’ll be hosting a familiar name: Former Patriots defensive end Lawrence Guy, who is visiting the Under Armour Performance Center as a free agent.

Guy entered the NFL as a seventh-round draft pick (233rd overall) out of Arizona State in the 2011 NFL Draft.

He has also spent time with the Green Bay Packers (2011), Indianapolis Colts (2012-13), San Diego Chargers (2013-14) and Ravens (2014-16).

Guy has played in 177 regular season games with 122 starts and has 507 total tackles, 17 sacks, one interception, two forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries. In addition, he has played in 13 postseason games with nine starts and registered 33 total tackles. Last season, Guy played in 17 games with 12 starts for the Patriots and finished with 38 total tackles.

Ravens delay roster announcement, inspire jokes on social media

Once again, the Baltimore Ravens are more than fashionably late in announcing their 53-man roster.

Once again, the Baltimore Ravens are more than fashionably late in announcing their 53-man roster. The team is certainly living up to its reputation as the last to announce its final cuts.

Their status as the last to show up to the party inspires the people waiting around for them to get creative while they keep refreshing their web browsers.

Here is a collection of some more colorful posts on the topic.

Ravens to waive TE Qadir Ismail ahead of 53-man roster deadline

Qadir Ismail has NFL potential, and as the former wide receiver continues his transition to the tight end position, he’ll likely improve on a practice squad.

Jonas Shaffer reports that the son of the great Qadry Ismail has been waived ahead of Tuesday afternoon’s roster deadline.

The perfect candidate for Baltimore’s practice squad, Ismail was initially invited to try out at rookie minicamp and was signed to the 90-man roster at the start of Organized Team Activities.

A converted quarterback who transferred from Villanova to Samford University, he totaled 16 catches for 156 yards over two seasons as a wide receiver.

Ravens to release WR Anthony Miller ahead of 53-man roster deadline

The Baltimore Ravens are making another roster move, releasing veteran wide receiver Anthony Miller ahead of Tuesday’s deadline.

A vested veteran, Miller is free to sign with any team and won’t be subject to the waiver wire.

Miller signed a reserves/future contract with the Chiefs after the Super Bowl but was released in May.

The Chicago Bears drafted Miller in the second round, 51st overall, of the 2018 NFL Draft out of the University of Memphis. He was the sixth wide receiver to be selected that year.

In 50 career games, Miller has 140 catches for 1,589 yards and 12 career touchdowns.

Ravens RB Keaton Mitchell to start season on PUP list

Baltimore Ravens second year running back Keaton Mitchell will start the season out on the PUP list, meaning he’ll mist the first four games

The Baltimore Ravens’ most explosive player will be absent for the first month of the 2024 regular season.

Adam Schefter reports that second-year running back Keaton Mitchell will start the season on the PUP list, meaning he’ll miss the first four games.

Mitchell suffered a torn ACL in a 23-7 win over the Jaguars in Week 15 last season.

In 2023, the undrafted rookie outplayed Melvin Gordon in the preseason and was the most productive running back on the roster by midseason.

Mitchell was one of the highest-graded players on offense and finished his rookie year with 47 attempts, 396 yards, and two touchdowns in eight appearances with two starts.

According to The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec, the Baltimore Ravens are making another roster move, waiving rookie quarterback Emory Jones.

Jones makes the 9th reported roster move for Baltimore ahead of Tuesday’s roster deadline.

Long before Anthony Richardson was the star signal-caller at Florida, Emory Jones held the position down. Jones’s best season in Gainsville came in 2021 when he threw for 2,734 yards and 19 touchdowns with a 64.7% completion rate.

After leaving Florida, Jones stopped at Arizona State and Cincinnati.

Jones could be a viable option for the Ravens practice squad.

Baltimore Ravens release CB Damarion Williams ahead of 53-man roster deadline

Jeff Zrebiec reports that the Baltimore Ravens are releasing veteran cornerback Damarion Williams ahead of Tuesday’s deadline, a move that could be described as shocking and maybe unexpected.

Williams entered the summer behind Marlon Humphrey and Arthur Maulet and on the Ravens depth chart.   Jayln Armour-Davis outplayed the former Houston star defensive back, and the additions of Nate Wiggins and T.J. Tampa in the NFL draft made earning a roster spot even more difficult.

Ravens roster cuts: Tracking the path to 53 players

With Tuesday’s deadline fast approaching, we’re tracking the roster cuts one player at a time.

The Ravens and 31 other teams have begun the painstaking process of trimming their training camp rosters from 90 players to the NFL’s required 53 ahead of Week 1.

Baltimore is a loaded team with Super Bowl aspirations, meaning there aren’t many available roster spots, and few of the players on the bubble will make the cut. The Ravens have decisions to make at the reserve running back and backup offensive line positions, among others.

With Tuesday’s deadline fast approaching, we’re tracking the roster cuts one player at a time.
