Notre Dame Week 13 highlight: Jeremiyah Love keeps streak alive

Jeremiyah Love keeps his streak going.

Notre Dame running back [autotag]Jeremiyah Love[/autotag] has his second touchdown of the night against No. 18 Army at Yankee Stadium.

Unlike his first score of the evening, which was a receiving touchdown, Love’s second was a rushing touchdown for the No. 6 Fighting Irish. Meaning his streak of games with a rushing touchdown has extended to 11.

This one was a 14-yard scamper that ended a 3-play, 41-yard drive that took 1:23 off the clock. Love found the end zone with 4:35 remaining in the first half, shortly after Notre Dame forced Army to go three-and-out.

That series followed an Irish failure to punch it in on fourth-and-goal.

Love also had runs of 21- and 6-yards on the drive.

Wayne Bullock was the last Notre Dame player to achieve this feat, doing it in 1973-1974.

Notre Dame Week 13 highlight — Jeremiyah Love leaps it in

Jeremiyah Love leaps his way across the goal line in New York.

Call it the Love Leap.

Notre Dame running back [autotag]Jeremiyah Love[/autotag] leaped his way into the end zone for the No. 6 Fighting Irish against the No. 18 Army Black Knights. Love caught a swing pass from quarterback [autotag]Riley Leonard[/autotag] for a 6-yard touchdown reception.

That ended a 3-play, 7-yard scoring drive that was set up when the Irish blocked an Army punt.

Unfortunately, it’s scored as a receiving touchdown, so the score does not extend Love’s streak of consecutive games with a rushing touchdown to 11.

Notre Dame Week 13 highlight: Blocked punt continues strong start

Bryce Young says hello to Army’s special teams with a Notre Dame punt block.

Any concerns about Notre Dame starting slowly against the Army Black Knights seem to have been overblown.

The No. 6 Fighting Irish got a punt block from [autotag]Bryce Young[/autotag] against the No. 18 Black Knights and were then setup in fantastic field position after [autotag]Christian Gray[/autotag] recovered for Notre Dame.

A good start for Notre Dame, and a nightmare for an Army team looking for a huge, playoff-shaking earthquake.

That said, it’s early, and Notre Dame cannot afford to ease off the gas.

Notre Dame Week 13 highlight — Riley Leonard connects with Jordan Faison

Riley Leonard, Jordan Faison get it started for Notre Dame.

No. 6 Notre Dame has gotten off to a strong start against No. 18 Army at Yankee Stadium in New York City.

After forcing the Black Knights to go three-and-out on the opening drive of the game, the Fighting Irish moved the ball effectively down the field on the strength of a run/pass mix and a couple of nice scampers by running back [autotag]Jeremiyah Love[/autotag].

The Irish then capped things off when quarterback [autotag]Riley Leonard[/autotag] found wide receiver [autotag]Jordan Faison[/autotag] for a 29-yard touchdown pass.

Leonard was 3-for-3 passing on the drive, which was 5 plays, 68 yards and took 2:17 off the clock. The touchdown was scored with 10:24 remaining in the first quarter.

Is Howard Cross III playing today? Injury updates for Notre Dame DL

Notre Dame Fighting Irish defensive lineman Howard Cross III is dealing with a left ankle injury. Here are the latest updates.

[autotag]Howard Cross III[/autotag], a defensive lineman for the No. 6 Notre Dame Fighting Irish, will miss tonight’s game against the No. 18 Army Black Knights at Yankee Stadium in New York City.

Cross missed last week’s game against the Virginia Cavaliers with a left ankle injury and now he will sit out against Army, as well.

Freshman wide receiver [autotag]KK Smith[/autotag] is also out with a clavicle injury.

All other Notre Dame student-athletes listed on the two-deep are available.

Howard Cross III injury update

Cross remains out with a left ankle injury.

With Cross out, Notre Dame will have even more of a challenge when it comes to an Army offensive line that earned praise from Notre Dame head coach [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag].

“They’re led, to me, by their O-line,” Freeman told the South Bend Tribune. “They come off the ball, they’re physical, they’re big – bigger than what you usually see when you play academy schools. They’re aggressive in the special teams. All three phases present some issues that we have to be prepared for.”

How long will Howard Cross III be out?

It’s unclear if this injury will also sideline Cross next week against the USC Trojans.

With Cross out, [autotag]Rylie Mills[/autotag] and [autotag]Donovan Hinish[/autotag] will be counted on to step up and fill in.

Experts pick Notre Dame, Army at Yankee Stadium

Here’s how the experts see tonight’s Notre Dame/Army game playing out.

Tonight’s tilt between the No. 6 Notre Dame Fighting Irish and No. 18 Army Black Knights at Yankee Stadium in New York City has huge College Football Playoff implications.

The experts who pick these games each week are certainly aware of that. Army has been hot, but also has had a weak schedule, and the Irish have a deeper roster of talent.

On the other hand, Notre Dame has lost to a lesser opponent, at home nonetheless, this year.

So, with that in mind, how are the experts leaning?

Let’s start with Pete Sampson from The Athletic.

“Notre Dame is a huge step up. And Army knows it, which might be to the Black Knights’ benefit,” he writes. “Notre Dame flexes its muscle but never gets inside Army’s head (see: Navy’s six turnovers), which is enough to pull away in the fourth quarter.”

He has the Irish winning 28-14.

Former Notre Dame star makes first NFL start

Former Notre Dame running back Audric Estime might start for the Denver Broncos this week.

Former Notre Dame Fighting Irish running back [autotag]Audric Estime[/autotag] is a rookie with the NFL’s Denver Broncos, and he’s likely getting his first NFL start today.

Estime has had a rocky start in Denver. He fumbled on his first NFL carry, though Denver retained possession. He injured his ankle on his second carry and missed four games.

Denver coaches trusted Estime enough to give him the ball five times on a potential game-winning drive against the Kansas City Chiefs last week. The Broncos lost when a field goal was blocked.

Now, it appears he will be RB1 for the Broncos this week.

Estime rushed for 2,321 yards in three seasons at Notre Dame, including 1,341 in 2023. He had 29 rushing touchdowns and 26 receiving touchdowns.

Notre Dame linebacker marks historic occasion against Virginia

Notre Dame’s Jack Kiser has very noteworthy achievement.

Notre Dame linebacker [autotag]Jack Kiser[/autotag] has earned a very cool honor.

Kiser has now played the most games for the Irish in school history.

The sixth-year man played in his 63rd game on Senior Day against Virginia on Saturday.

He surpassed safety/special teams player [autotag]Houston Griffin[/autotag] (2018-2022) for the honor.

Kiser wouldn’t have the chance to play so many games for the Irish if the COVID-19 pandemic hadn’t led the NCAA to offer extended eligibility.

One of the neater things about this is that Kiser played with [autotag]Kurt Hinish[/autotag], who had 61 games for the Irish before his career ended, and is now playing with Kurt’s brother Donovan.

“Jack is special to me,” Notre Dame coach [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] told the South Bend Tribune this week. “He’s the only player in this program I actually got a chance to coach as his position coach.”

“(Kiser) is truly a Notre Dame man,” Freeman said. “He grew up here in Indiana. He reached his full potential. He’s been an unbelievable leader. He’s made this place better. And he’s going to leave this place better than he found it.”

Experts move Notre Dame up in polls

Notre Dame is getting back in the experts’ good graces.

Along with making moves in the AP Top 25 Poll, the No. 6 Notre Dame Fighting Irish are moving up on the experts’ lists, too.

Well, on one expert’s list. Another keeps the Fighting Irish in the same spot.

[autotag]Danny Kanell[/autotag] has Notre Dame at No. 8 this week, one spot up from last week. [autotag]Joel Klatt[/autotag] kept the Irish at No. 10.

Kanell’s top 12 is Oregon, Indiana, Ohio State, Penn State, Texas, SMU, Miami (Florida), Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Alabama, Georgia and Tulane.

Klatt’s top 10 is Oregon, Ohio State, Texas, Indiana, Penn State, Georgia, Ole Miss, Alabama, Tennessee and Notre Dame. “Almosts” are Miami (Florida), Boise State, Texas A&M and Colorado.

Notre Dame safety Rod Heard II (2) tackles Virginia wide receiver Ethan Davies (26) during a NCAA college football game at Notre Dame Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2024, in South Bend.
