Steelers vs Rams: Who ya got?

Cast your vote and pick the winner for Steelers vs Rams?

This week the Pittsburgh Steelers come out of their bye week in hopes of getting a huge road win over the Los Angeles Rams. The Steelers are currently road underdogs to Los Angeles.

Pittsburgh has been riding splash plays on defense to help overcome an offense that doesn’t have an identity or direction. Games have either been narrow wins or blowout losses. Nothing in between. Which will this week be?

The Steelers are currently 3-2 and need this win to keep pace with the AFC North-leading Baltimore Ravens.

Steelers vs Rams: TE Pat Freiermuth expected to miss Sunday’s game

The Steelers will be without Pat Freiermuth against the Rams.

According to NFL reporter Tom Pelissero, the hamstring injury suffered by Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth several weeks ago is going to keep him out of Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams. Originally there was talk of Freiermuth being ready to roll for the Week Seven showdown.

Pelissero said Freiermuth had an MRI on Friday morning and he isn’t healthy enough to go yet. Head coach Mike Tomlin had hinted earlier in the week that Freiermuth was the one injury the team had genuine concern over.

With Freiermuth out, expect to see more of rookie Darnell Washington along with Connor Heyward. The Steelers have been hesitant to feature the tight end much in the passing game with season with only 14 catches between the three of them.

Steelers vs Rams: Pittsburgh going back to OT Dan Moore Jr.

Despite a strong game against the Ravens, the Steelers are going back to Dan Moore Jr.

When Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin addressed the media on Tuesday he said it was a big if as to whether or not offensive tackle Dan Moore Jr. would be healthy enough to play on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams.

According to Steelers beat writer Ray Fittipaldo, unless Moore has a big setback between now and the game, Moore will be back in the starting lineup after missing the team’s Week Five game against the Baltimore Ravens. Rookie Broderick Jones got his first NFL start against the Ravens in place of Moore and played well.

The Steelers offensive line has been the weak link for much of the season. Pittsburgh traded up in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft to select Jones but head coach Mike Tomlin appears to be content with letting Jones sit and riding things out with Moore. Pro Football Focus ranked the Steelers offensive line No. 23 in the NFL and No. 26 in pass blocking.

Former Steelers G Kevin Dotson highest-graded guard in NFL

The Steelers didn’t have faith in Kevin Dotson and he’s proving them wrong.

This week when the Pittsburgh Steelers take on the Los Angeles Rams, they will face two former Steelers starters. One is cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon and the other is guard Kevin Dotson. Dotson flashed greatness as a rookie but was never able to recapture that magic after that.

Until now.

Dotson is currently the starting right guard for the Rams, having started the past three games in place of Joe Noteboom. According to the folks over at Pro Football Focus, Dotson is the highest-graded guard in the NFL this season with an 85.3 grade.

Meanwhile, for the Steelers, his replacement Isaac Seumalo has a 63.8 grade. Seumalo had his best game of the year against the Baltimore Ravens just before the bye week and hope he can continue to build on that.

Steelers vs Rams: 4 things we want to see happen this week

We want to see the Steelers do a better job using Minkah Fitzpatrick and Jaylen Warren this week.

After a week off with only two opportunities to practice, the Pittsburgh Steelers are back together and preparing to travel to the West Coast and take on the Los Angeles Rams. The team used the break to get healthy and hopefully get their minds right with 12 games left to play.

Here are four things we want to see happen this week.

Steelers HC Mike Tomlin not overly confident in health of OT Dan Moore Jr.

Mike Tomlin indicated if Dan Moore is healthy, he will start against the Rams.

Rookie offensive tackle Broderick Jones got his first NFL start against the Baltimore Ravens in Week Five. But despite having maybe the best game of the season by any Steelers offensive tackle, he is not promised a spot in the starting lineup once Dan Moore returns.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin spoke to the media and said that if Moore is healthy, he will get the start against the Los Angeles Rams. However, Tomlin made it seem like Moore being healthy enough to go is a longshot.

“That is a big if. We’ve got work ahead of us,” Tomlin said

Tomlin appears to have completely changed his stance on rookies playing. The Steelers have multiple first-year players who appear to be doing enough to get on the field but Tomlin is hesitant. Maybe Tomlin remembers how his eagerness to get a rookie like Kendrick Green on the field backfired and now he is gun shy about making the same mistake twice.

Steelers vs Rams: Los Angeles running backs all banged up

The Steelers could be facing a third-string running back this week when they take on the Rams.

When the Pittsburgh Steelers take on the Los Angeles Rams this week, they might be able to dedicate more focus on quarterback Matthew Stafford thanks to a pair of injured running backs on the Rams.

According to NFL reporter Ian Rapoport, starting running back Kyren Williams suffered an ankle injury in Sunday’s win over the Arizona Cardinals and his backup Ronnie Rivers could be out several weeks with a PCL sprain. Williams has a sprained ankle that could keep him out this week and Rivers like likely headed to IR.

If this holds, rookie Zach Evans could get his first NFL start. Evans got his first career carries last week against the Cardinals, finishing with 10 carries on four yards. The Rams also have veteran Royce Freeman on their practice squad and he could be signed to help spell Evans.

Last week against Arizona, Williams had a career-high 158 yards on 20 carries before his injury.

Steelers vs Rams: 5 early causes for concern this week

We aren’t convinced the Steelers can block Aaron Donald or that they made any real changes over the bye week.

After a full week off, the Pittsburgh Steelers get back to work this week and get ready to travel out to the West Coast and take on the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams are coming off of a win and currently sit at 3-3. Even though on paper these two teams are very evenly matched, the level of inconsistency the Steelers have played within the first five games makes the outcome uncertain.

Here are our early causes of concern this week.

Steelers open as 3.5-point underdogs against the Rams

Pittsburgh comes off the bye week and now prepares to travel across the country as underdogs to take on the Rams.

The Pittsburgh Steelers spent Week Six of the NFL season on the bye and hopefully getting healthy and working on getting the season on track. The one advantage of having a bye week so early is Pittsburgh should be able to make some corrections ahead of these final 12 games.

First up is a cross-country road trip to take on the Los Angeles Rams. Despite the better record, BetMGM’s opening line for this week’s game has the Steelers as 3.5-point road underdogs.

The Rams got a 26-9 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. They currently sit at 3-3 and sit in third place in the NFC West.

The Rams are led by veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford. Stafford has some serious weapons on offense and got wide receiver Cooper Kupp back from injury on Sunday. Defensively, Steelers fans know it all starts with elite defensive tackle Aaron Donald. He’s going to make life difficult on a struggling Steelers offensive line.
