Expert picks heavily favor Jaguars over the Steelers

NFL experts don’t give the Steelers much of a shot this weekend.

Sunday’s showdown between the Pittsburgh Steelers (4-2) and Jacksonville Jaguars (5-2) will pit two of the top teams in the AFC in what could be a playoff preview. The Steelers are returning home after a huge road win and the Jaguars spent last week on the bye.

What does all that add up to for the NFL experts? According to the folks over at NFL Pick Watch, most experts don’t give the Steelers a chance. NFL Pick Watch aggregates picks from all over the internet and gives them all to you in one place.

They have the experts leaning heavily toward Jacksonville with 72 percent of the pundits picking the Jaguars. The fan vote is even worse with 76 percent of fans predicting Pittsburgh will lose at home.

The last time these two teams squared off was Week 11 of the 2020 season. Pittsburgh came out on top 27-3. Running back James Conner had 89 yards rushing and wide receiver Diontae Johnson came up huge with 12 receptions for 111 yards.

Steelers vs Jaguars: Big causes for concern this week

Here are the things we are worried about ahead of this week’s game.

This week the Pittsburgh Steelers at back at Acrisure Stadium riding high at 4-2. But there’s no time to let up and enjoy it because the Jacksonville Jaguars are coming to town and they are 5-2 and rested after being on the bye week.

Here are our big concerns for this week.

Steelers vs. Jaguars: Pittsburgh’s final injury report ahead of Week 8

3 Steelers CBs, including Joey Porter Jr., are questionable vs. Jags.

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ final injury report for their Week 8 matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars includes 10 players. The game status for three cornerbacks, Joey Porter Jr. (calf), Levi Wallace (foot) and James Pierre (ankle) is questionable.

Here’s the full rundown, according to Steelers.com.

Steelers vs Jaguars: WR Diontae Johnson says he is playing

Diontae Johnson sat out Thursday’s practice with a hamstring injury but says he’s playing vs the Jaguars.

After Friday’s practice, the Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Diontae Johnson assured reporters that despite a setback with his hamstring injury earlier in the week, he plans to play this Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Johnson returned last week after a short stint on IR with this same injury. The passing offense definitely looked better once it got going with Johnson on the field against the Los Angeles Rams.

Against the Rams, Johnson had five receptions for 79 yards and just as importantly, opened up the coverage for teammate George Pickens. Thanks to fewer double teams, Pickens was able to haul in five receptions of his own for 108 yards.

Jacksonville QB Trevor Lawrence disrespects all of Pittsburgh with ‘little yellow towels’ comment

Trevor Lawrence is going to see plenty of those little yellow towels on Sunday.

Shots fired.

On Thursday, Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence spoke to the media ahead of their showdown with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He decides, right out of the gate, to disrespect perhaps the most iconic image in all of Steelers lore. Steeler Nation swinging those Terrible Towels and the sea of yellow

“I know what they are,” Lawrence said. “Those little yellow towels they swing around.”

Little yellow towels, eh? I guess no one told Lawrence that the curse of the Terrible Towel and players who disrespect them are doomed to fail. Now that Lawrence has done this, he has surely sealed the fate of the Jaguars before they even get to Pittsburgh.

The Steelers head into this week’s game at 4-2 after a huge comeback win over the Los Angeles Rams last week. Meanwhile, the Jaguars sit at 5-2 and are coming off of the bye week. This game would be the playoff matchup if they started this week with the Jaguars as the No. 4 seed and the Steelers would be the No. 5 seed.

Steelers vs Jaguars: Full 53-man roster update and practice squad

Here is the Steelers updated roster and practice squad ahead of this week’s game against the Jaguars.

This week the Pittsburgh Steelers will take on the Jacksonville Jaguars and the team continues to move pieces around as the season reaches the midway point. Here is the team’s current 53-man roster along with the full practice squad after multiple roster moves this week.

Steelers vs Jaguars could be potential playoff preview

If the playoffs started today, this week’s Steelers game against the Jaguars would be the matchup.

If the NFL season started today, the Pittsburgh Steelers would be in the playoffs. The Steelers got a huge 24-17 road win over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday and improved their record to 4-2 on the season.

They now head back home and prepare to take on the 5-2 Jacksonville Jaguars. This is going to be the game of the week and if the playoffs were this weekend, this would be the matchup. The Jaguars would be the No. 4 seed and the Steelers would be the No. 5 seed.

It is remarkable that the Steelers, despite a steady dose of inconsistent play, find themselves in the thick of the playoffs. On Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams, the Steelers played three bad quarters of football before the team rallied in their usual fashion and thanks to another fourth-quarter comeback by quarterback Kenny Pickett, was able to pull off the comeback win.

This week’s game will be a huge test for Pittsburgh as the Juguars are easily one of the best teams in the AFC. In the Steelers two losses this season, both have been blowouts to the Houston Texans and San Francisco 49ers. If the Steelers follow their pattern, things don’t bode well for them this weekend in this playoff preview.
