Steelers vs Jaguars: Big takeaways from the humbling loss

The Steelers lost the battle at the line of scrimmage and with that lost the game against Jacksonville.

On Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers fell 20-10 to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The loss means the Steelers are 4-3 with a Thursday Night Football showdown with the Tennessee Titans on the horizon. This game was a lot of what we expected a lot of what we didn’t. Here are our big takeaways from the loss.

Instant analysis of the Steelers loss to the Jaguars

The Jaguars handed the Steelers an embarassing loss on Sunday.

On a cold, rainy afternoon in Pittsburgh, the Steelers did their best to hold serve with the Jacksonville Jaguars/ But in the end, sloppy play, a sloppy field and a pair of massive injuries added up to an ugly 20-10 loss. The loss drops the Steelers to 4-3 and muddies the waters for the second half of the season.

The Steelers offense was once again the story and for all the wrong reasons. It didn’t matter whether it was trying to run the football or pass it, very little the Steelers could do went right. And this was before Pittsburgh lost starting quarterback Kenny Pickett to a rib injury just before halftime. This brought Mitch Trubisky in but it was the same story.

Defensively, Pittsburgh held the Jaguars at bay as long as they could with no help from the offense. The secondary was already short-handed with cornerback Levi Wallace out and so when safety Minkah Fitzpatrick went out early in the game, Jacksonville took advantage.

Now the Steelers must rally and get ready to play on a short week when the Tennessee Titans come to town for Thursday Night Football.

Jaguars players steal fans’ Terrible Towels after interception

The disrepect of the Steelers continues against the Jaguars.

Midway through the fourth quarter, Pittsburgh Steelers backup quarterback Mitch Trubisky made a horrible throw into triple coverage resulting in an interception by Jacksonville safety Andrew Wingard.

After the INT, Wingard and his teammates did the usual, “run to the end zone and celebrate’ and Wingard and some teammates took it a step further by literally snatching up Terrible Towels from Steelers fans with seats at the front.

This would normally be where we would warn against the curse of the Terrible Towel but it doesn’t feel like that curse, or really anything of the tradition of this team means much as poorly as they are playing.

Crowd erupts as Steelers announce CB Joey Porter Jr. a starter

Joey Porter Jr. gets his first start of the season vs the Jaguars.

It took two months but the Steeler Nation finally got what they wanted. No, the Pittsburgh Steelers didn’t announce they were firing offensive coordinator Matt Canada before Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The other thing they wanted.

The crowd at Acrisure Stadium erupted on Sunday when they introduced rookie cornerback Joey Porter Jr. to the starting lineup. Porter is the team’s second-round pick from the 2023 NFL draft and has been the best cornerback on the team all season.

Porter finds himself in the starting lineup due to an injury to Levi Wallace that has him inactive this week against the Jaguars.

Porter has been rock solid in coverage as a key reserve and got his first NFL interception already this season.

Steelers inactives: Starting CB Levi Wallace OUT vs Jaguars

The Steelers will be without starting cornerback Levi Wallce vs the Jaguars.

The Pittsburgh Steelers will be minus starting cornerback Levi Wallace this week when they take on the Jacksonville Jaguars. Pittsburgh released its inactives for this week’s game and Wallace was the one surprise on the list.

The Steelers also listed nose tackle Breiden Fehoko, offensive tackle Dylan Cook and quarterback Mason Rudolph among the inactives this week. Of course, Rudolph is still dressed and listed as the team’s emergency quarterback.

With Wallace out, rookie Joey Porter Jr. should get his first NFL start. Porter himself has been dealing with an injury along with fellow cornerback James Pierre so this entire unit is dinged up. It also means newly-acquired cornerback Darius Rush is active along with Luq Barcoo and both could see action against the Jaguars.

4 bold predictions for Steelers vs Jaguars

The Steelers get after Trevor Lawrence and no stupid penalties this week.

This week, the Pittsburgh Steelers face a huge challenge when the Jacksonville Jaguars come to town. Pittsburgh is 4-2 but you can’t say those wins were pretty. The same can be said in some cases for the Jaguars 5-2 record. This one is going to be the game of the week and one to watch. Here are our four bold predictions for this week’s game.

Steelers vs Jaguars: Keys to victory for Pittsburgh this week

The Steelers have to establish the run and don’t let the Jaguars do the same.

If the Pittsburgh Steelers are going to pull off yet another upset this week, it is going to take a full game’s worth of effort by all three phases. The Jacksonville Jaguars are a very talented team with a lot of similarities to the Steelers. If Pittsburgh wants to find a way to get past them, here are the keys to victory.

Who wins – Steelers or Jaguars?

Cast your vote to predict who wins this week.

It’s prediction time, folks and if you are like us, you can’t really make much sense of this Pittsburgh Steelers team. The offense isn’t very good. Until it is. And the defense is very good. Until it isn’t.

This week the Steelers welcome the Jacksonville Jaguars to town. The Jags are 5-2 and lead the AFC South. But it hasn’t been pretty for them, either. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence has struggled dealing with teams that blitz and few teams have blitzed more this season than the Steelers have.

But will this be enough for the Steelers to get the win at home?

[crowdsignal poll=12920319]

Cast your vote and tell us who wins this Sunday. For us, much like last week, we are planning on a close game without a ton of scoring. However, unlike last week when we predicted the Steelers pulling off an upset in a close game, we think this week it will go the other way. Pittsburgh tries to come back late but falls just short.

Jaguars 27 – Steelers 24

Steelers vs Jaguars: 3 players questionable for this week’s game

The Steelers could be minus multiple top cornerbacks versus the Jaguars.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are going against the Jacksonville Jaguars this week and they could head into this game short-handed at cornerback. The team put out its game-status report and three of the team’s top cornerbacks are listed as questionable with injuries. The Steelers were forced to put
