Steelers vs Bills: 3 keys to victory for Pittsburgh

The Steelers must run the football and shorten the game this week.

No one is giving the Pittsburgh Steelers a shot to pull off the upset over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. Pittsburgh is a nearly two-touchdown underdog and has lost three games in a row. But this is the NFL where anything can happen. Rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett is making his first NFL start and hopes to spark the offense. If the Steelers want to pull off the upset, here are the keys to victory.

Steelers signing LB Ryan Anderson to 53-man roster

According to NFL reporter Tom Pelissero, the Pittsburgh Steelers are signing outside linebacker Ryan Anderson to the team’s 53-man roster. Anderson was elevated from the practice squad last week. The Steelers play the Buffalo Bills this week.

Anderson gives the Steelers another athletic guy on the outside who could be tasked with trying to keep up with Bills’ quarterback Josh Allen. The Steelers continue to play without star outside linebacker T.J. Watt who continues to recover from torn pectoral.

Sitting at 1-3, the Pittsburgh Steelers season is currently on life support. The team has lost three in a row and now faces the toughest four-game stretch on their schedule. First up are the 3-1 Buffalo Bills on the road. Pittsburgh is a 13.5-point underdog on the road and this one could get out of hand in a hurry.

Both teams go into the game with a list of injuries that could help level the playing field a bit for Pittsburgh but the outcome of this game is going to be decided by the quarterbacks. Buffalos’ Josh Allen is one of the truly elite quarterbacks in the league and the best dual-threat quarterback in the NFL. Can the Steelers slow him down without linebacker T.J. Watt?

On the other side, Pittsburgh has turned to rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett. This is to try and spark an offense that’s been stuck in park all season. This is where those injuries on the Bills’ side of the football could pay off. Will Pickett and his cast of skill players be enough to keep pace with the Bills’ offense?

[crowdsignal poll=11215720]

In the final analysis, I don’t see Pickett and the Pittsburgh offense keeping up. A shootout is the absolute last thing the Steelers can afford. Despite what promises to be an inspired effort by Pickett, Buffalo gets ahead early and wins big. Cast your vote and give us your predictions.

Bills 38, Steelers 17

Steelers vs Bills: What to expect when the Steelers are on offense

It’s Kenny Pickett time in Pittsburgh.

On Sunday in Buffalo, the Kenny Pickett era begins for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Pickett gets his first NFL start and the Steelers will get a first look at the future of the franchise. This week the Steelers take on a stout but injured Buffalo Bills defense and here’s what we expect to see.

Steelers RB Najee Harris says Highmark Stadium loudest in NFL

The Steelers are headed into hostile territory on Sunday.

Traditionally, teams traveling to Pittsburgh say playing in the Steelers stadium is about as loud as it gets. But what stadium do the Steelers’ players find the loudest?

According to Steelers running back Najee Harris, Highmark Stadium, home of the Buffalo Bills is the loudest stadium he played in last season. Harris talked about the atmosphere there and we wondered how it compared to how loud Bryant Denny Stadium got when he was at the University of Alabama.

You can bet Highmark will be loud this Sunday when the Steelers come to town. Buffalo is sitting at 3-1 and is a nearly two-touchdown favorite. But the fans will remember how the Steelers came to town on the opening weekend of last season and upset the Bills 23-16.

Steelers vs Bills: Secondary dominates Pittsburgh injury report

The Steelers are all banged up in the secondary.

[mm-video type=playlist id=01eqbydbzmnr1bhxef player_id=none image=https://steelerswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

If the Pittsburgh Steelers want to pull off the upset over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, they might have to do it short-handed in the secondary. The Steelers put out their game status report for this week’s game and three starting defensive backs made the list.

Cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon is out for a second-straight week as he continues to deal with a hamstring injury. Joining him on the report are two more starting defensive backs. Safety Terrell Edmunds and cornerback Cameron Sutton are both listed as questionable. Edmunds remains in concussion protocol and Sutton has a groin/hamstring designation.

If all three cannot go, the starting secondary will be in pieces. Levi Wallace and James Pierre would be the starting boundary cornerbacks with Arthur Maulet working in the slot and Tre Norwood would get the start at safety next to Minkah Fitzpatrick.

3 bold predictions for Steelers QB Kenny Pickett’s first start

We expect plenty of excitement from Kenny Pickett and the Steelers offense on Sunday.

On Sunday, Kenny Pickett will start his first game for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Pickett came off the bench last week and sparked the offense to a near win over the New York Jets and now gets to travel to Buffalo and take on the top pass defense in the NFL in the Bills. Here are our three bold predictions for Pickett’s first NFL start.

Steelers Thursday practice report filled with defenders

Eight total starters were on the Thursday practice report.

[mm-video type=playlist id=01eqbydbzmnr1bhxef player_id=none image=https://steelerswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

Friday is going to be huge for the Pittsburgh Steelers. The team will put out its game status report for this week’s showdown with the Buffalo Bills and we will have a better understanding of just how hobbled the Steelers defense will be.

On Thursday, six defensive starters and one key reserve were all either limited or did not participate. This is in addition to the continued absence of outside linebacker T.J. Watt.

Starting wide receiver Diontae Johnson and starting center Mason Cole were also limited on Thursday.

Here’s a full rundown of the Thursday practice report.

WR Diontae Johnson (Hip) – LP
CB Cameron Sutton (Groin/Hamstring) – LP
CB Ahkello Witherspoon (Hamstring) – DNP
CB Levi Wallace (Foot) – LP
S Terrell Edmunds (Concussion) – LP
S Minkah Fitzpatrick (Knee) – LP
OL Mason Cole (Foot) – LP
DL Chris Wormley (Ankle) – LP
DT Cameron Heyward (Ankle/Elbow) – LP

The Steelers are already 13.5-point underdogs and if they are down multiple starting defenders, two touchdowns might not be enough. Let us know in the comments below what players you think will miss the game.
