Steelers RB Najee Harris blames media for disconnect among offense: ‘You guys are breaking us up’

Najee Harris says the media are causing problems for the Steelers.

[mm-video type=playlist id=01eqbydbzmnr1bhxef player_id=none image=https://steelerswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

When something isn’t working, you have to inquire about why if you want to understand the problem. But I guess the Pittsburgh Steelers media asking the players about why the offense is struggling is doing more harm than good and actually blaming the press for the problems between the players.

We’re really comfortable,” said Harris. “You know what it is? I think it’s social media and the interviewers like you guys kind of breaking us apart in a way.”

But Harris went even further saying the media is breaking the team up while they are trying to build something.

“You guys keep asking questions like this. We’re at a point where we’re building right now. We’re working on it. But you guys come in here and ask questions to the receivers and Mitch about why things aren’t working. That’s not how you build, how you get better. You guys are breaking us up. We need to find a way to come together as a team and focus on what needs to matter the most.”

I’m not going to fault Harris for his feelings on the matter. If what is being said about the offense hits home, then let’s just hope it has an overall positive impact on who the team plays this weekend against the New York Jets.

Steelers fall in latest TD Wire NFL power rankings

The Steelers continue to struggle this season.

[mm-video type=playlist id=01eqbydbzmnr1bhxef player_id=none image=https://steelerswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

Right now, the Pittsburgh Steelers are a team on the ropes. Sitting at 1-2 no one really really knows if this team is really good or not. The offense is inconsistent at best and the defense has cut off at the knees with the absence of linebacker T.J. Watt.

Our friends over at Touchdown Wire put out their latest NFL power rankings and after falling to the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night football fell from No. 19 to No. 21 on the list.

George Pickens made an amazing catch, but it wasn’t enough to save the Steelers from the Cleveland Browns’ onslaught. Pittsburgh is still figuring things out with their offense, and the defense will still have problems to work through with T.J. Watt sidelined.

Truth be told with how poorly the offense has played, 21st feels generous. Pittsburgh is dead last in time of possession and has the second-highest percentage of drives going three-and-out in the NFL. Until this offense finds an identity and some focus, I don’t look for much improvement at all.

Steelers QB Mitch Trubisky defends OC Matt Canada

Who is the blame for the Steelers offensive woes?

[mm-video type=playlist id=01eqbydbzmnr1bhxef player_id=none image=https://steelerswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

Through three games, the Pittsburgh Steelers offense has been hard to watch. They are currently near the bottom in every major statistical category including time of possession where they are dead last. This level of futility starts people pointing fingers and many have their aimed directly at offensive coordinator Matt Canada.

But according to starting quarterback Mitch Trubisky, Canada isn’t the problem. Trubisky went to bat for his offensive coordinator on Wednesday, putting it back on the players to make plays.

“Matt has been calling good games,” Trubisky said. “He’s been putting us in good spots. We’ve just gotta go out and make the plays for him and for this offense.”

I’m not sure if great is the word I would use but I digress. Trubisky certainly must shoulder some of the blame for his play as well. The hope is the two of them get on the same page sooner rather than later before the season is a loss.

Steelers CB Ahkello Witherspoon misses Wednesday practice

Ahkello Witherspoon was the only player DNP on the Wednesday practice report.

[mm-video type=playlist id=01eqbydbzmnr1bhxef player_id=none image=https://steelerswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

The Pittsburgh Steelers got back to work on Wednesday as they prepare to take on the New York Jets at home on Sunday. The only player absent from practice on Wednesday was starting cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon who is dealing with a hamstring injury.

If Witherspoon cannot go on Sunday. it will throw off the entire cornerback depth chart. Witherspoon and Cameron Sutton had been doing a good job as the team’s primary boundary cornerbacks. Taking Witherspoon off the board means Levi Wallace would likely take his spot.

Arthur Maulet would remain the team’s slot cornerback in most packages but the fourth cornerback then becomes James Pierre. It would also bring backup safety Tre Norwood into the fold a bit more as a sub-package defender.

[mm-video type=playlist id=01eqbydbzmnr1bhxef player_id=none image=https://steelerswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

Heading into this week’s game against the New York Jets, the Pittsburgh Steelers find themselves with their backs against the wall, riding a two-game losing streak and hoping a home game against the struggling Jets will reverse their fortunes.

But what if it doesn’t? What if the Steelers fall to New York? Falling to 1-3 and then making the playoffs would be a rare feat but it is made worse by a hyper-competitive AFC.

Cast your vote and let us know if you think the season is over with a loss on Sunday. Or do you think Pittsburgh can drop this game to the Jets and still find a way to salvage the season?

Steelers among league’s worst in offensive effeciency

Only one team has a higher percent of three-and-outs than the Steelers.

When it comes to the Pittsburgh Steelers offense, the struggle has been real. An anemic passing attack, unimaginative playcalling and a tentative quarterback have been the perfect storm for just how not to be an efficient group. No stat illustrates this better than in terms of the percentage of drives ending in a three-and-out.

This puts the defense at a distinct disadvantage when they are rushed back onto the field The defense is gassed and opposing offenses just run all over them. With the Steelers, we’ve seen this far too often in 2022.

Here are the five worst teams in the league in percentage of three-and-outs.

Jets QB Zach Wilson’s status vs Steelers up to doctors

The status of Zach Wilson for Sunday is still up in the air.

[mm-video type=playlist id=01eqbydbzmnr1bhxef player_id=none image=https://steelerswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh told the media on Monday it would be up to the doctors if starting quarterback Zach Wilson would be available this week to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers. This is according to Jets reporter Rich Cimini.

Wilson has missed all of the regular season after suffering a meniscus injury in the preseason. The original timeline for recovery would have Wilson being ready for their Week Four showdown with the Steelers. However, Saleh had been clear it isn’t up to him if Wilson is able to play and no decisions will be made until Wilson is released by the doctors.

Longtime Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco has been filling in for Wilson in his absence.
